This is really interesting. I’m not quite finished reading this yet, but it definitely provides food for thought.
I rely on Wikipedia for quick information, not as a reliable source of knowledge in general. This seems interesting, so I’ll give it a read later.
I momentarily stopped reading at “Wackopedia” (anyone who holds wikipedia as a serious source of information beyond casual conversation is an idiot unto themselves), and scanned a bit:
It’s a shame as it brings up valid points but doesn’t cut all the idiotic label warfare fat in an effort to propose a more serious & legitimate point of wikipedia having role in perpetuating skewed ignorance and/or laying the groundwork for more methods of control, etc. etc. etc.
I’ll read the rest later when I can tolerate the tinges of ignorance & arrogance in an otherwise interesting & thoughtful essay. I’ve had more than enough of reading the ‘us vs. them’ crap of “x or x -ism” or “x or x -ists” for one day.
Exactly. Encyclopedias in general shouldn’t be used as primary sources anyway.
Yep. I’m very careful with it though, when it comes to information particularly susceptible to bias.
