I know there are some out in the Pacific, but it any large hurricane/typhoon/what-ever you wish to call them hits, the island is gone as they are like the FL Keys, just barely above sea level. Not sure if they are out of US territory, but theres lots of rigs in the Gulf of Mexico..
Could you be more specific about these islands? Even if it’s hurricane infested, there’s still the option of hurricane-proof buildings.

Vostok island looks like a great place to start, since it’s apparently all trees and so could conceal a “Rapture” type of location easily.
Flint Island looks appealing as well.
Malden Island has “Endangered birds!!!” on it, so that’s probably out of the equation.

There is surely enough survival and similar literature on architecture etc. Some resources and thoughts might be here.
I always thought about that idea - of some minimally settled piece of land that could be turned over. Perhaps settled the same way the US was formed. Antartica comes to mind, but no would ever want to live there. Problem with forming a state, is that you are likely to be at war with somebody - particulary a bully like the US.
One other piece of info I’m interested in looking into is an independent internet server. Isn’t there a collection of like 13 supercomputers that house the internet?
the internet is not ‘housed’ within 13 ‘supercomputers’ as far as I know

What kind of international law? The only thing that comes to mind are drug and copyright treaties, which many parts of Europe and China respectively ignore.
Check the EEZ for one, that makes it profitable to own every single rock that even slightly juts from beyond the waves. It ain’t that easy to find a way to independence.
