I don’t know if anyone has heard, but they’re making a film version of Atlas Shrugged. I’ve seen that’s quite a popular book for many conservatives/libertarians. What are your opinions on this? I haven’t read the book so I can’t really give my opinion of whether it’s a movie-type book.

I don’t really know much about the writer/director of the adaptation, but I know the writer produced Dog Soldiers, and that movie is awesome.
The novel was far too long and complex to successfully be condensed for a film, they should abort. It could be made into a mini-series though.
I agree with Angurse here. I was a good two hundred pages in reading the book and it didn’t really feel like the ending/introduction had finished. Don’t get me wrong, the book is a dirty pleasure and I feel wrong everyday when I pass it on my shelf; I put it away at first to finish Hayek’s Constitution of Liberty and then got too lazy to get back into it. Sometimes I swear its just glaring at me to finish it, but that’s neither here or there. If Atlas Shrugged is ever made into a film, expect it to either suffer serious cuts or for it to be made into a trilogy.
I think like video games, some novels should not be films. Films these days lack any sense of depth or ambience. It has been reduced to something that you sit still for several hours and get entertained. I intentionally use the word entertained because modern movies don’t leave you with ideas to contemplate. For example take a modern movie, let us say Twilight. What was the moral of such a movie? Anything more topographical then ‘forbidden love’? Atlas Shrugged will not have the depth if it is in movie form but they will probably make it anyways.
Agreed. Twilight is the worst. The Rules of Attraction and American Psycho were both based upon books written by Bret Easton Ellis. These both left you thinking at the end. I don’t understand why other adaptations have failed so terribly.
Supposedly Freakonomics is going to be made into a movie too. Worst idea ever. Producing a film adaptation of Freakonomics is something that government would probably invest in.
Movies not living up to the books they’re based on is hardly a new phenomenon. I’m just hoping that this film will inspire people to read the book.

I’ve heard that the movie is going to be made in four or so parts. Brian Patrick O’Toole did co-produced Dog Soldiers, but he also wrote some poorly rated films on IMDB.
I read somewhere that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were consulted for roles in the movie. That, however, obviously didn’t work out. I wonder, though, how would the public receive that movie if two very important Hollywood actors participated.
