'Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother' - Aggressive Parenting and the Cult of Excellence

I didn’t see this posted anywhere. It’s about Amy Chua, “Tiger Mother”, which was talked about in another thread. I found it very interesting and relevant to Mises forum readers. If Mods disagree, please remove.

Edit: 1st half is reread of the article, “Battle Hymn of the ‘Tiger Mother’”, by or about Amy Chua. Good for lazy people like me who’d rather listen lol  Sorry Fred. Thanks for the input.

Well said indeed!

I tend to agree with this poster.

“The future is not going to be saved by hyper-competent brutalised empty souls, that can rapidly drum piano keys, and are terrified of authority.”

Very good video (I wish you had warned me that the first half was just a re-read of the article), and that is probably my favourite line.

Just like in the other thread- I think to make connection that her daughters are hyper-competent brutalized empty souls is nonsense. People are just more dynamic than that- and whatever connections you want to make about a child’s personality stemming from their parents is more likely just projecting how you’d feel under those circumstances.
