With all the money they’ve spent over the past decades you’d think there wouldn’t be any more “needy” or “poor” residents 
well what else are they gonna do ofcourse they’re mad.
Folks have to realize that welfare programs get funded from somewhere, namely taxes. No tax “revenue”, no welfare programs. This entitlement craziness has gone awry.
You contribute nothing, ever.
I guess they haven’t figured out they can’t vote to end the recession.

The government of California isn’t cutting enough of the state budget. Though you’d think that they’d at least try to axe all corporate welfare programs and special interest pay-offs before they started cutting social welfare programs.
Governments always pretend that in order to balance the budget, they have to ax welfare programs for the neediest. That way, it allows the government and other opponents of cuts to characterize those in favor of cuts as sadistic freaks looking to prey on the poor.
My favorite line in that article was “they fear they might lose their independence” if the cuts are made. Since when are independence and dependence synonomous?
True enough. I believe it’s important to stress that governments need to first get rid of special favors and subsidies to Big Business, Big Labor, and their cohorts.
They’re all gonna be rich now, since welfare programs are what make people poor.
And in case that doesn’t work out and they start starving, the government should just repeal the minimum wage laws and that pesky “involuntary servitude” clause and let them sign slave contracts.
Certainly if we starve them enough these people will ‘voluntarily’ find work in some kind of a salt mine or plantation…

Social welfare programs often create dependence, since most (if not all) social welfare programs have a very high and very regressive implicit marginal tax rate. Earning a higher income after going into debt (or saving up for years) to start a business, go to college, or receive special training can result in an individual’s welfare benefits from the government being removed. Thus, social welfare programs act as a disincentive for the poor to advance their place in society.
Slave contracts are an oxymoron. You can’t voluntarily agree to involuntary service.
Working conditions in the United States are actually pretty good due to centuries of accumulated capital and technical progress. If we eliminated the minimum wage and social welfare programs (as well as the “progessive” taxes that fund these programs), then living standards would rise as there would be a greater incentive for investment.
First Greece, then California… who’s next ? France ?
