On April 23rd my license was suspended for 30 days (reckless driving - 69 in a 45 through some small county at 5 am; a part of me thinks the cop put the highest number possible because when asked how fast I was going I replied with “I don’t know how fast I was going, what the speed limit is, or where I’m at right now.”) Anyway, I’ve put off reinstating my license, because, well, who wants to go to DMV? I drove about everyday my license was suspended and haven’t stopped now, but I finally decided that it’s about time to pay to be “legal” again, especially after hearing about how bad you can get it if caught driving on a suspended license. I logged in on the DMV site and it says I have “no outstanding suspensions, revocations, cancellations or disqualifications in the state of Virginia.” I’m thinking the $251 I paid to the Sussex county court (before the suspension date) is all I had to pay. Yet, if my license isn’t suspended, I’m not going to question it. I’m thinking of printing the page on the DMV site that says I’m okay incase I get pulled, to keep in my car unless I hear otherwise. Anyone deal with a similar case?

When I got the ticket I could go to court, or just pay the $251 and deal with the 30 day suspension. I figured I could do no better or worse, and the court was way out of the way, so instead of wasting the time, gas, and further expenses to go to court (the worse, I suppose) and probably hear no better I paid the fine and dealt with the suspension. After that is when someone said I need to reinstate my license when the 30 days is up, but it seems that’s not the case if I have no outstanding suspensions right now.
well on the ticket, there should be the court’s number, just call them and ask them your concerns. Say that you already paid for your ticket and the 30 days have passed and you want to make sure if you are legal to drive now. If they say no, ask what are the steps in order to make yourself legal again.
Well, that’s the thing, I only owed the court the $251, and DMV says I’m clear from suspension. It’s not the court, but DMV that I have my questioning with. I just thought I’d have to do something beyond what I had already paid for the ticket, but that seems not to be the case. I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation, if they had to pay to reinstate their license after suspension.
Did they have you replace your physical license with one that had a listed restriction on the back, take it completely, or give you a paper one or what?
I had a 60 day suspension (I was still allowed to drive to work though) and I had to go to the DMV to have the restriction removed from my license. But I think the fee that I paid was just to have a new license printed up that didn’t have any restrictions printed on it, I think that the suspension automatically dropped off from my file, but I’m really not sure.
But if you still have your physical license in your pocket and it doesn’t have any listed restrictions, I think you are clear.
