Oh what would we do without laws. Even the books are statist propaganda texts, brainwashing the teachers into assuming we could do nothing without a coercive entity to rule over us. I thought teaching was about persuasion and inspiration not conformity and authority… guess I shouldn’t be a public school teacher after all
I thought teaching was about passing on knowledge and skills. I didn’t realize teachers were supposed to be persuading students of things. It also seems a remarkably easy task if your students happen to be children.
Those are part of the picture, but many children need to be persuaded what they are being taught matters to their lives. Children are good critics and naurally question authority, if you give them any leway in doubting your ability to teach or maintain order, it can cause them to totally shut down. Its a fine line between forcing it down their throat and just having them listen to what you have to say. I love that they question authority but that lends itself to your need to persuade rather than mandate. SORRY that I left that part out, I was mainly focusing on the contrast between authoritarian public schools(worker/consumer/ineptitude factories) and the persuasion of a market process.
Lol I like how they pick very minimalistic laws to actually list off. The answer of course is that those two laws or at least some equivilent are necessary, but laws are only a small part of what keep society together, most of them are actually quite contrary to the wellbeing of society. When the hell was the last time someone passed a law thinking “this will make it possible to live together as a nation”?
I’ve found that teachers question authority in only what the subject is the teachers are trying to teach, not the specific material that they are trying to teach it in. With this being said so long as you are being interesting I’ve found that as long as the kids are halfway suitable to school then they will listen to you and pay attention.
