H.R. 5741 is currently being argued in the house of representatives. If passed, H.R. 5741 will give the president the power to require 2 years of compulsory service from every US resident between ages 18 and 42. That’s not a misprint: everyone between ages eighteen and forty-two will be required to serve in any capacity at the president’s whim.
This bill will destroy US commerce as citizens are reassigned to service. The bill’s sponsor is Charles Rangel, a democrat from New York. The bill does not yet have a co-sponsor. It was introduced on July 15th and is now before the armed services committee.
It’s just a trial balloon, nothing will come of it. Americans are all rah-rah on the war on terrorism so long as it is an opt-in/opt-out deal but as soon as it comes down to a draft, even the rank-and-file flag-wavers will turn against the Establishment.
But it does tell us what the leadership has in mind. Basically, they need to get a reading on public sentiment regarding compulsory service so they can figure out how to spin the Emmanuel-Plan for mandatory community service, a civilian service corps, and so on.
Yeah I think so as well Clayton. If something like this gets brought up then it’ll force people to think about the wars they support until they realize those wars have to be fought by someone.
Well, my country had similar laws not so long ago, but just before I turned 20 (and when quited university), the law was changed and I was “saved” hehe.
Sounds, from what I have read so far, and return to the draft, but with and added “community service” aspect added in for the environmentalist out there.
Ohh- got to Title II, Section 201a, it extends the selective service aka the “draft” to women, this is a neat developement, and a way to strong arm, for otherwise you are “sexist” or anti-feminist to oppose this bill, maybe even claiming anti-equal rights?
At least the vats mass of the population will receive some degree of military training. It can always come in handy in a future face off with the government.
Well, in a theoretical guerrilla action, the people will always have to learn a lot. But guerillas often learn much faster than the enemy (incentives). So, providing even a basic level of training would help ‘us’ more than ‘them’.
This one only excluded high school students near as I can tell, and if I remember my history correctly, seeing as I was born about hte same time the first Bush invaded Kuwait, the Vietnam war really ran into draft problems when the removed the exclusion of college students from the draft.
