The first thing it will have to do is set up a slew of new institutions, most of which will be analogous to national institutions as we know them today, e.g., create a global constitution, a global president, a global parliament, global political parties, global laws, a global civil service, global police, a global court, a global military, globiversities, global taxation, global wealth distribution, global resource management, global trade unions, global incomes policy, a global currency unit (the “Globo”), global health insurance, etc.”

Later on there’s a probable war between the “Terrans” and “Cosmists”.

What is with these people and highly centralized, bureacratic superstates?

Probably a psychological extension of the primitive tribe/leader model. They can’t really conceive of any way to foster cooperation than by amalgamating tribes under the same leader.

Also, the ideology of the state has its roots intertwined with early religion and is essentially a mystic cult. It’s very much like the desire to convert the heathens. I think many anti-statists underestimate the level of irrational dogma they’re dealing with.

But anyway, leaving economics aside, is the current bankrupt western welfare state relay an inspiring vision for a global state? Don’t people feel a sense of despair when they imagine times 1000 forever and ever? It’s depressing as hell.

How come nobody ever asks what the hell you would ever need a global military for… defense against aliens? Seriously!

The reason nobody ever asks is because the answer to this question reveals the true nature of global government: empire. A global government needs a military for the same reason Caesar needed a military… not to stop foreign invasions but to enforce imperial rule.
