Could IP activists hold that the information in our DNA could be stolen, sold, marketed, etc?
I am not too sure on the specifics, but aren’t there already companies trying to patent certain genes? As to the reasoning they give behind it, I assume it is along the same branch of reasoning as the arguments for medicinal patents.

There was a documentary made for Australian television that explored this. One company was able to get international patents on human genetic sequences that are basically used by every lab doing any sort of genetic testing. And just like the Wright brothers, and virtually every other patent holder like them, Genetic Technologies (GTG) is making big business out of going around threatening lawsuits and forcing people to pay up.
