Oh my god. Look at the comments on Krugman’s blog post.

God, I’ve been reading this nonsense all day on NYT fb thing. I’m absolutely disgusted.

Why put ourselves through that torture.

I don’t really have a good answer for that tbh fil.

being an an-cap or austrian today is bound to bring about more than a few seizure inducing interactions with other people. as you never know when or where you will hear ‘war is good for the economy’ ‘housing is a right’ or ‘communism is good in theory’, it’s best that you build up your nervous system’s tolerance to idiocy.

So thats what socialism looks like…

Reminds me of this: http://www.lewrockwell.com/rockwell/german-auto-chart.jpg

Technically, this isn’t socialism. Not even if they went to a single payer. Not yet at least. As long as most of the factors of production are still privately owned and the rest of the economy is still relatively free, it is still a market economy, although severely sabotaged by the government. So you ain’t seen nothing yet.

So privately owned sections of the economy are simply directed by the hand of the state. So we go from one method of coercion to another. In this method they can pretend it’s still “Capitalism” while retaining all the negative effects of socialism.

Any time coercion is applied it necessarily implies a disruption of the formation of meaningful prices. It necessarily distorts the structure of prices, accumulation of wealth, and direction of capital.

Then in a few generations we can enjoy sipping coconut water and sending smoke signals to the neighboring tribes.

No thanks, I’ll stick with my paid for Absinthe and broadband.

Unproductive strawman aimed at a productive poster who makes civilized arguments (albeit, ones not in favor with a majority here) makes me a sad panda.

don’t know much about the UK system, I think its pretty similar to Canada’s system except that its nationwide instead of by province, and that you are allowed to by private care as well. Anyway in a health care discussion I was having with some socialist he pointed me to this article:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/03/30/exclusive-nhs-hospital-waiting-times-are-the-lowest-since-records-began-115875-21239011/

can anyone explain the improvement? are more people choosing private, thus opening up the public hospitals?

They certainly are, but how do you combat them?

With appeals to emotion. Conservatives in the US really need to begin fighting fire with fire, because reason and facts simply do not work in arguments. Sorry, they don’t.

To borrow a phrase about arguing with idiots, never argue with a leftist using emotional claptrap. They’ll beat you by virtue of experience.

So then what do you do? Let him get to the ears of people first?

I don’t think that’s the best way to go about it either. Leftists win on virtue of emotion because rational people are boring and facts don’t pass through to the brain as quickly as emotions do.

People are pretty stupid. I wish it were otherwise, but it’s not.

My thoughts too. I mean, it’s not like the Republicans were the principled objectors here, they just wanted their special interests to get greased too. I think technically we can say this bill is actually less horrible than it could have been had both parties really ‘worked together’ to get something through.

There is a bright side to this bill. Have you seen the headlines all over the world? “Historical achievement: Universal Healthcare for all Americans…blah, blah blah”

From now on, the rhetoric about the failed free market healthcare system in the US should be done with.

From now on, Americans will finally know that they have a government run healthcare system. They didn’t know it before, but now they will. NO more blaming insurance companies.

Which is why I said: "it is still a market economy, although severely sabotaged by the government. "
