Help Needed - Convincing UFC Fans That Gov. Judges Not Needed

Some UFC fans are convinced that without the state forcing the UFC to use state judges, fights would be come fixed and the whole UFC would crumble…

they can’t seem to understand that the UFC has the most motivation to make sure the fights are fair…

Not to mention, the referees as well. Yves Lavigne has to be one of the worst referees in MMA. One of these days, someone is going to be seriously injured or killed because this guy does not know the difference between someone who is able to intelligently defend themselves and someone can not.

Judging from the posts, it’s more of a religious conviction than an actual logical position, so there’s not a lot you can say. Here’s some points you my try.

  1. Poke holes in the religious conviction that the government is impartial or disinterested. Government is as self-interested as any organization and only involves itself in a matter if it stands to profit in some way or other. Governments monopolize number games (lottery) not to make them fair but because they are an easy revenue source.

  2. I don’t think UFC had state judges from day one. Were all the early fights fixed?

  3. Many other sports do just fine without state judges. Many fighting sports - Judo, BJJ, both MMA sports - are international and I doubt their tournaments have state judges. Apparently, the fights in all those sports are fixed, too.

But don’t set your expectations too high… as I said, it’s a religious conviction, not a logical position.

I don’t understand why people think government judges/referees are somehow non-human and won’t be swayed by bribes. Understanding this simple fallacy makes all government agencies (i.e. the FDA) seem unnecessary.

I’ve also heard that many boxing matches are fixed, too. Again, rumors, but still. Don’t they all use government referees?

People think that government is some kind of super power that is the savior for everything… in reality, Government runs on inefficiency and nothing else…

Ask them how they know that state judges can’t ever be bribed.

Dana White says “Don’t Blame us for Bad Judges”

“My job isn’t to figure out the scoring, how to train refs and how to do all these other things,” White told journalists Thursday, after a press conference for the upcoming UFC 124 show in Montreal. "That’s why we’re under the athletic commissions. That’s what these guys do. Believe me, I have enough jobs already. They need to figure out how to fix it.“Referees and judges in the United States work for state athletic commissions.”

EDIT:

Lew,

Scratch the idea of interviewing Joe Rogan, instead interview Dana White. Talk about the judging situation. This would be a very interesting interview and would introduce alot of new people to Lewrockwell.com
