My boss recently stopped by my work to do a little inspection and pick up some supplies. He is a highly intelligent, smart, well educated man. I tend to always work some pro-liberty messages whenever I talk to anyone, so I naturally love politics. We started talking about property values and the housing bubble and I immeditately, of course, talk about how the government in it’s effort to “fix” the crisis is doing all the wrong things such as propping up housing prices and trying to keep housing construction strong, etc. when the markets need to come down to their proper pricing levels and clear.
He says jokingly, “Well, politicians only care about the next election when it comes to policy.”
I laugh and say I absolutely agree, Democracy and election cycles absolutely lead to poor policies since their is no incentive for long term growth or protection, only the immediate matters. He actually agrees and I tell him there is actually a book about this called Democracy: The God that Failed. He laughs at the title, thinking it’s extreme, but I tell him the basic premise anyway.
I finish off…“so, in a democracy, since no politician has any real ownership in the results of the policies or stake in the future, they will never plan for the future in order to make things prosperous long term.”
Immediately he responds, with a little smile, “Yes, that’s why we need a Monarcy.”
Most people have absolutely no idea of what a real monarchy is. Here at least one’s grandpa can tell about the good old days of the King, but in the west?
Conza, of course that point was made by me after he said that. He was joking, I’m sure, be he understood the argument and even seemed to agree with it at least partially.

I’d love to come to your neck of the woods. Here in Mordor [the Midwest], I once mentioned that I do not support democracy and was immediately questioned as if I were a Nazi.
The word "democracy’ is about as meaningless these days as the word “freedom” or “liberal.” It’s a word for cosmic justice; to oppose it is to deny your very humanity and to resist the power of its light is to embrace pure evil. The state will surely punish you, then.
Storm the beaches for democracy. Make the world safe for democracy. Kill brown people for democracy. Ban salt for democracy. Ugh.
What Caley said. Politicans want it open again to do their bidding. Also, If they kept it closed, within short order people would protest in the name of democracy.
