Hip Hop That Isn't Blatantly Leftist

… is there such a thing? All the lyrics of good hip hop artists like Mos Def, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Jedi Mind Tricks, etc. seem to be filled with anti-capitalist and left-wing rhetoric.

I don’t think you’ll find much hip hop that isn’t leftist. What are people rapping about these days? Gold chains or cash money?

I’ve looked long and hard because that is the music I grew up with, and still appreciate. The answer appears to be no.

“What are people rapping about these days? Gold chains or cash money?”

That’s mainstream top 40 crap, made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Real rap/hip-hop bears little resemblance to the crap you see on tv or hear on the radio.

Handsome Boy Modelling School??

Sarcasm has failed on the internet again. I used to listen to Immortal Technique once in a while, but the leftist lyrics are overwhelming unbarable now. Some people at work were talking about hip hop the other day, and I mentioned Immortal, and no one knew who he was.

That’s just sad. What were they talking about? Just the “pop” hip hop shit that plays on the radio?

I hate how explicitly Marxist he is. But I still listen to him. He’s just too good to ignore, IMO.

But Ches Rockwell is white… But Lovage FTW! Dan the Automator is pretty left-leaning too.

Well, there is this guy. About as libertarian as you can get. There is even a shot of him holding Butler Shaffer’s Boundaries of Order.

Drake, Kanye, Lil Wayne, etc. One guy asked me if I listen to Lil Wayne, and I asked if I look like I listen to Lil Waye, and he said yes. If he was serious, I’m really confused.

This kicks ass.

Did you do the proper thing and punch him in the face and then tell him that Lil Wayne can suck a big one?

If you enjoy any of these artists let me know and I can reccomend much, much more.

One of the guys from Immortal Technique is a total collectivist. See this:

Immortal Technique (he is the guy) is an explicit Marxist in his music. But at the same time he’s definitely one of the best rappers I’ve ever heard.

His style of rap, however, is very good for spreading a message. I don’t see why an an-cap couldn’t use this rap style to spread the message.

Yeah, it definitely is. I guess we just need to get Rothbardianism popular on the streets…

Well lure them with promises of legal drugs, guns, and the gold standard.

This thread made me turn on Rage Against the Machine in itunes.

Am I the only person who thinks that Rage Against the Machine is absolutely terrible?

Making money? Black market activity? Hating the police? Obsession with gold? Sounds pretty libertarian to me.
