The Straight Dope has some good stuff, but it is so full of it. It has the same kind of complacent leftism that drives me insane about many similar outlets, such as ‘sceptical’ magazines and Salon.

Here is a perfect example: Why is Prostitution Illegal?

In many respects the Progressive project was a great success. Today everybody is grateful that we have pure food laws and antitrust regulation.

I hate that sort of blithe conceit. NPR makes me want to vomit. I sometimes wish these people would get the managerial superstate they beg for just so I could see them go up against the wall.

I think John Stossel is right, the conservatives (or pseudo-conservatives) are certainly full of it, but typically they are FAR more open-minded than the liberals. The lefties think they are so tolerant and peaceful; I’ve never seen so much vitriol and self-censorship; they’re worse than Neo-Nazis in this respect.

My impression of Straight Dope is that they are just repeating what they were told in school. Same with Cracked.com.

Cracked.com isn’t all bad, they did a great piece about safety laws that have failed because of their unintenioned consequences. One of those were speeding laws and they brought up relevent examples and date. It doens’t absolve the inaccuracies of their other articles, but it’s not all bad.

Yes, and they are usually willing to listen to ‘crazy’ ideas; whereas the NPRite can’t even hear you, the lies he tells himself are too loud.
