Hoppe: Anarchy in the UK

The Exploitation of the Strong by the Weak

“There is, of course, some truth in the statement that there’s a difference between criminals and states. But the difference is actually one that makes states look even worse than plain criminals.”

So declared Professor Hans Hermann Hoppe, retired economist at the University of Nevada, LV, and Distinguished Fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, in his address to the society on Thursday, 23rd October.

Includes audio of session. [:)]

that was a really good lecture, thx for posting!

“There is, of course, some truth in the statement that there’s a difference between criminals and states. But the difference is actually one that makes states look even worse than plain criminals.”

I definitely fear more the corrupt police, that can place drugs into my pockets and then claim that I was distributing them, than the thieves who somehow have lived in a society which has denied them the opportunity to envision a better way to live.

My pleasure. Hoppe is awesome.

At around 42:00, he is talking about fractional reserve banking, and he explains it so perfectly.

Instead of referring to fiat as bills of credit, he explains it better as “property titles”.

The printing up of more titles than there is property. That is an excellent way of explaining it to the laymen.

This isn’t directed at any one or any post in particular, but wasn’t it disappointing that the British students were so pro-state, so absolutely ignorant on the subject of Austrian economics and libertarian theory?

Like the idiot who asks if it is possible to have Central Bank, that is private.

Or the girl who asked about free health care and free education…

Libertarians seem to be thin on the ground here, look at the LP in the UK, they favour a central bank.

Is this really suprising? Ofcourse not! Most libertarians (especially in Europe) are of the Chicago school kind, so basically they lack a coherent moral theory and methodology. They are in fact, not really libertarians at all. Thats why they believe that interventionism, warfare aimed at spreading democracy, central banking and fiat currency, miniarchism, utilitarianism and sometimes even egalitarianism is all well and good.
