I'm preparing to invest in Silver as a foray into converting my savings to metal. I seek advise or experience to help guide me--

Cool.

To get back to the original topic: Silver seems to be a great investment at the moment because (a) we should expect severe inflation somewhere down the line and (b) the exchange rate of silver to gold is, at this moment, around 60:1 when it should be 15:1, historically speaking (making silver extremely undervalued, relative to gold at least). Also, I heard someone say that the supply of gold is actually 5x greater than the supply of silver.

Well, I’ve begun research into local silver dealers. It’s not worth spending a lot of money on shipping silver when it’s likely there are people here in town selling bullion.

I just have to work out what’s best to buy now.

You can buy silver coins from Austria. I did not buy any and I own no silver because it is a lousy investment hey hey obama!

Can you explain why you think opposite of so many others that “silver is a lousy investment”?

You’re joking

Forgive me, hehe-- I totally shoulda caught that–

Seems like everybody locally has coins, not bullion. I kinda don’t want coins–the premium to me isn’t worth it.

Junk coins are the way to go, then bullion. but certainly not coin collector coins.

You’re right, that’s what I should be thinking about-- thanks to you all for this educational thread–I hope it helps others that are interested.

It looks like my entry was well-timed

We should start a club of super cool amateur silver investors.

I’m sorry to to sound disrespectful, but anybody who thinks that the cost of living is not rising substantially is a total moron. Yeah, prices have gone down a lot, for things like leather couches, flat screen televisions, etc. and other things that people buy once every five years. Food, energy, health care, etc. and other useless things we buy regularly, we’ll just pretend those don’t exist. Really, how much of an idiot do you have to be to not realize what a farce government inflation/unemployment numbers are? Let’s remember that 25% of the CPI-U is owner’s equivalent rent (something nobody buys ever), that if prices increase by say 5% but a bureaucrat says the quality increases by 5% the price increase is “cancelled out”, when the price of steak goes up they take it out and put hamburgers in the index instead - I can go on forever. Hey Student - do they have any homes for sale in Fantasy Land? I hear it’s lovely this time of year.

I didn’t know they put quality adjustments in the CPI?
