Why is it that there’s a lot of people who call themselves libertarians, think the term only refers to economics or vice versa, social control?
How many types of freedoms is there?
Most people seem to judge how to use the word according to the way its representatives are portrayed in the media. For example, some blabbermouth on TV says that he is an “X”, discusses a narrow topic and then viewers will tend to think of anyone sharing his position in the topic as being an “X”.
Labels are not property so anybody can use them to describe their own or others allegiance even if he/they do not necessarily follow all guidelines of this particular school of thought, thus debasing value of this label to all people that believe they are its “true” followers and people that are honestly trying to know what it actually represents. Labels are more meaningless/worthless the more popular they are. Thats why to me labels are not really useful and I prefer to ask people if they agree with me on my methodology, epistemology and certain normative statements (NAP for example).
