In 2002 I had a conversation with an Army counter-intelligence sergeant and he explained all the loopholes they could exploit on prisoners to break them down mentally and physically. Sleep deprivation is one of the easiest to get around and what Lew described is exactly what this Army sergeant told me. Essentially you as a prisoner of war or in this case a prisoner under the UCMJ are required by law to 8 hrs (unless it has changed since) of sleep. However, the sergeant informed me that it did not have to be 8 consecutive hours of sleep and that it was common to wake guys up every 15 or 20 minutes. So I don’t think Lew is going overboard here at all in his statement.
Telpeurion, Lew Rockwell isn’t responsible for your “mental sounds and images”. The statement of Lew’s is correct, and what they’re doing to him is brutal. Lilburne, if you read the statement made by the linked blog, it said he was being talked to every 5 minutes during the DAY, not while he slept. The reason they are checking on him is due to his being on watch for physically harming himself.

This? I gotcha now that I actually read the article. You are saying that he gets enough sleep time to get REM’s, as well as watch TV etc. Your post without the link is a bit misleading/ phrased a bit odd.

I thought the original title of this post was “Lew Rockwell Lied.”
Apparently, groundlessly accusing soldiers of torturing a prisoner is OK, but declaring that a journalist lied will bring down the wrath of the forum Thought Police.
I chose my words deliberately. If Rockwell wishes to be known as an economist, he should focus on economics. Unfortunately, most of what I hear from him recently are on social and political issues, and on this one I have to conclude he’s dead wrong. I am tired of people touting PFC Manning as some kind of whistleblower who is now being persecuted. He is a criminal, plain and simple (I will, however, refrain from using the word “traitor”, as this has yet to be determined.).
As a side note, the idea that all FPS games are a military experiment is laughable. About 85% of the military consists of bureaucrats, not trigger-pullers.

The State wants to make sure Manning doesn’t kill himself before his trial and execution.
Manning hasn’t been cooperative, and I’m sure the orders from on high are to get this man to talk in order to gain evidence against Assange. They really don’t have a case without Manning confessing that Assange was directly involved.
Sleep deprivation is indeed one of the primary tactics the U.S. Government uses to gain information from uncooperative detainees.
Lew Rockwell appears to be connecting the dots. That doesn’t make him a liar, it’s just speculative opinion.

I normally start my responses in issues like this with the question: How come the perps in these situations are always low level non-commissioned officers? Where are more senior folks? But that is normal. This is not normal, Julian A didn’t use a condom and therefore is guilty of sex crimes in the country of Sweden. And PRIVATE FIRST CLASS (Third to lowest possible rank) Manning is an accused theif and a co-conspirator in a Sweedish sex crime organization. What is next a RICO charge? Is there a RICO statute in the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) ?
PFC Manning is awaiting trial which in TV Land means that he is innocent this is the case for both the UCMJ and civil law. Since he is non violent, he should be held in separate barracks under the military form of house arrest, at worst he should be in the minimum security lockup. I know, this PRIVATE FIRST CLASS, with top secret access to sensitive information that he was given, is so hamful to the US that the UCMJ and the Constitution have to be superceeded.
One comforting thought: If they can treat PFC Manning this way then they can also treat you the same way.
This might as well be torture. 5 minutes worth of research online will tell you what happens to you when you continue with sleep depravity. I am one who could not sleep under those conditions. It must be dark, it must be quiet, and it must be un-interrupted.
