I’ll give it a chance, if only for Daniel Day-Lewis.
Hollywood is dominantly liberal, but not entirely. There are few mainstream films that have (what could be interpreted as) ‘Libertarian’ themes.
Yes, Daniel Day-Lewis is worthy of respect, however I certainly didn’t like “There Will Be Blood” for it’s message (it was based off a book by Upton Sinclair, so…).
I hate Shillberg. No way will I ever see this movie. As for There Will Be Blood, that was hugely overrated and average as a movie, regardless of any message.
It was indeed, I wasn’t saying that it was that good of a film outside of the anti-capitalist message.
I’ll share this when it comes out. I love how Hollywood is going to be used to rewrite history…

What ‘message’ is that? I’m quite certain that Paul Thomas Anderson (the writer/director of the film) only adapted the fitst bit of the novel, and he claims that there is no political agenda and/or message involved.
I thought the whole movie screamed out load “CAPITALISM RUNS ON GREED! THIS GUY IS A CAPITALIST AND HE HAS NO HUMAN FEELINGS AND HE BASHED A GUY’S HEAD IN WITH A BOWLING PIN…AND HE’S A CAPITALIST!”
Then why would the film mold the viewer to like his son? If you don’t remember, at the end of the film his son gets into the same business as his father, and explicitly says they are now competitors.
The viewer is made to like the son, because he is nothing like his father (a greedy & self-righteous individual). The son is still a capitalist, and oilman, yet he walks away a better man.
PTA’s new film “The Master” is actually completely anti-authority, and is used as an allegory to challenge all kinds of ‘masters’ in our society, particularly religious & political.
Hmm. Perhaps you’re right, as the last time I watched the film was back in 2007 when I was nine years old…yeah.
By the way I do like Paul Thomas Anderson. I thought “Boogie Nights” was cool and I’d like to see “The Master.” Looks interesting.
In my opinion, The Master was PT’s worst so far. Not to say it was bad, just pointless. Even less of a coherent point than There Will Be Blood. Nice photography, though, as usual.
The acting for Lincoln looks dreadful.

But really, acting is phased out when you have a horrible script. I defend Hayden Christensen when people poke fun at him, because for the script for III, in the words of Mr. Plinkett, “Ever Sir Lawrence Oliver couldn’t work with this shit.”
Yeah, but Lucas was never a good actor’s director. The acting in the original Star Wars was pretty bad as well (or at least over-the-top), but the characters were memorable, written relatively well, and you could relate to them.
