I started on this forum a few months ago with the idea that “no tax is morally justified, unless the product/service being provided is a public good (i.e. law creation, law enforcement, national defense, etc).” I couldn’t see how a public good could be provided only to those who pay for it.

I now hold the idea that “no tax is morally justified, period.”

This short piece by Hans Hermann Hoppe was so convincing and I now see that the arguments which support free markets in grocery stores are no different than the arguments that support free markets in police forces, insurance companies, law-creating agencies, and ‘national’ defense (once private property is not expropriated).

I’ve since read a few articles and transcripts of speeches by Hoppe and they are really incredible. Just wondering if there are any books or articles in particular that anyone on this forum would recommend by Hoppe, or other people who you’d recommend given that I really like how Hoppe thinks and writes. Thanks

Bob Murphy has written a decent amount on the subject. You might enjoy Chaos Theory. (You can find it in the “resources page” link there. However, be sure to check out the update note from Murphy, requesting that you read his newer article first). And then you might check out the other articles listed there as well. You might also see Hoppe’s The Myth of National Defense.

And for a book-length description of the truly free society you’ll want to check out Rothbard’s For a New Liberty.
