Nov 2, 2010: The Republicans spank the Democrats in the House, and gouge massive chunks from the D majority in the senate! New Republican governors appear from sea to shining sea! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS???
…It means absolute ASS. Nothing will change systemically, the government will continue to grow by leaps and bounds, the economy will continue its sprint towarard the edge of a cliff, and Republicans will blame the Democrats; America at large will go on hacking at branches while the roots of the tree of tyranny rapidly disassemble the foundation of society.
Tomorrow, I will wear my “I voted for nobody” shirt, and maybe indulge in a little smugness.
There were tons of libertarians on the ballot in my county/state, and even a socialist. I am quite surprised by the pluralism arising… I just wish it wasn’t Tea Party reactionaries.
Sometime in 2006 I picked up my guitar and played, just like yesterday(ed), then I got on my knees and prayed we won’t get fooled again.
God answered my prayer; I never have been fooled again. But apparently God is an individualist, because “we” did not encompass the entirety of America.
I think that is cynical and shortsighted. Do you reject Ron Paul and others like him? They get elected too, and if enough of them get elected, government might just get smaller.
The best that could happen if there were a classical liberal electoral revolution is that government might stop growing, for a while. But as a matter of principle, I do not believe that our liberty comes from the government - we are born with it. And it would only strengthen the political and amoral memes on which statism rests if the government were seen as benevolently “giving liberty” to the people.

My statement was in regards to the Nov. 2 election. I don’t believe anything will change really. As far as Ron Paul is concerned, no i don’t reject him. I just think its going to take a lot of Ron Pauls to change anything right now, and even if enough got elected to make the State smaller would it stay smaller. Strong arguements could be made that it wouldn’t.
