The Obama’s administration newly adopted approach regarding resetting ties with Russia has been a praiseworthy initiative in so far as the ties between Moscow and Washington remained ‘under dog’ since the end of the Cold war era.The post cold war era has had observed a tough climate of relationship between the two states- the United States and Russia with regard to the debated issues:the Nato’s eastward expansion, the US Shield missiles program in the eastern Europe and the US-overt/covert approach over the Georgian issue.
With the Obama’s administration positive effort to halt its Ballistic Missiles Program in the eastern Europe, a climate of thawing the strained relations improved between the two states.The latest developments regarding the two countries’ mutual understanding to reduce the nuclear war heads have also restored the sick confidence of the international community. The international community, now, may hope that probably the ongoing race of ‘horizontal and vertical nuclear armament’ would be controlled.
It goes without saying that resetting ties with Russia has been an exigent US’s need yet many many other challenges still eclipse the future of bilateralism between Moscow and Washington.And of course, these challenges are : the Russian adopted approach towards the Iranian nuclear issue,the US’s adopted approach/design in central Asia, the US presence in Afghanistan and Iraq and the most significantly, the US’s espousing policy of strategic realism, thereby trying to penetrate inside Pakistani territory via unjustifiable drone attacks.
Hm, now that financial bankruptcy is unmistakably visible to the US government, it must absolutely expand its territory and bring more human beings and capital under its aegis if it is to survive longer. And since China and a multitude of other states are gnawing the American empire on a local basis, Russia being most prominent, and the States can’t even think of declaring war on Russia, Iran, Venezuela and China at the same time, the only way out is to join in a single economic entity with other countries.
But as these other countries must be more liberal than the States themselves to be of any helphelp, the EU serves no purpose. Only bringing under American influence some east European and Asiatic nations would help, and Russia must agree with that. Hence, the “reaproachment”. I don’t think it’ll work., I think war is unavoidable in this decade.
The relationship between the citizens of the USA and those of Russia has nothing to do with Iran, nuclear weapons, idiotic USA foreign policy or idiotic Russian foreign policy. It has everything to do with building business relationships between individuals in the countries. And from my perspective, the USA could take Russian advice and become more free market oriented and have the citizenry become less dependent on the total state.
The Russians have been through the goodness of central planning and total state power and they seemed to hate it. Russia is hardly free but is becoming more so. The USA is mostly free and becoming less so.
True, yet can any peaceful relation between citizens survive long if, for the reasons I highlighted, and the States would find themselves fighting a bitter war over the ? The looming bankruptcy of the will, given time, doom any effort to peacefully interact with its citizens. It shall either fall as a political entity, or rule a larger area for some more time. I really can’t see how the latter can be achieved given how already over-expanded the American Empire is.
EVEN if the made an U-turn right now, even if Ron Paul was elected President now, and he stuck to what he promised, even than what would happen would be the total breakdown of the society. Paul would find himself ruling over an “” slightly larger than , or else be forced to use brutal repression to keep it together. Statism is far too rooted by now.
Forget about the EU, NATO and Eastern Europe. The true “hot zone” of US-Russian competition is the Caspian Sea basin and the surrounding Persian/Arab countries. The US has got Iran pinned with forces to the East in Afghanistan and to the West in Iraq.
We shouldn’t under-estimate the logic of the Iranians for making pals with Russia and their sphere of influence, nor their intentions of developing nuclear capabilities which are a de facto weapon of deterrence. The Iranian regime is insane, but not adverse to self-preservation.
The US and Russia are both interested in exploiting the oil and gas resources of the region via competing pipelines. The US needs a central government in Afghanistan to protect a pipeline leading from the Caspian Sea basin southwards into the Indian Ocean.
Russia has the power to bleed Europe dry with their control over the bulk of natural gas supplies, hence the often-touchy relationship with Great Britain.
There is far more realpolitik to the relationship between the former superpowers than people realize. Such is the nature of state-inferred mercantilist policies and their inevitable conflicts.
