The only reason I can fathom for the recent attempts at NATO Expansion and the development of missile defense is that the president in particular and the Republican Party Neo and Not-So-Neo Conservatives are just a bunch of blood thirsty war mongers who are so beholden to the Military Industrial Complex that they continue to fight and detain Russian Communism.
Why not put a tick in the Win Column and get on with wasting trillions in resources and thousands of lives in other pointless interventions?
I am looking for other other rational reasons but can’t guess any.
There is a more obvious reason: whoever is near Russia fears Russia and want to be protected. And NATO is the only way to find protection. Nato expansion is not at US tax-payers expense, it’s an alliance.
Nato is not an alliance, it is an entanglement which can only result in dragging us into more global conflicts in the name of democracy.
Detain? No, no, they want to push it around.
They are not doing because they fail to understand the new reality of the world. They are doing it because they malicious intentions about shaping this new world the way they want it. The threat of a Nuclear first strike, and surrounding it will hostile American-satellites, will keep the Russians at bay.
