I just found him on Facebook. Two friends, a picture of Glenn Beck as his profile picture, and Fox news everywhere? Get ready for some more fake partisanship.
I’m quite sure that’s a fake account.
This youtube page, however, looks legitimate. And very red.
EDIT: Also, since it’s the only place I can vent, John Boehner said: “An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve… Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society.”
That’s a pretty horrendous quote, don’t you think? Are acts and threats of violence against non-public-officials less offensive?
He seems to like syllogisms.

Yea it is pretty ridiculous.
According to Zero Hedge (http://www.zerohedge.com/article/jared-lee-laughners-youtube-site-reveals-clues-about-killer-lists-mein-kampf-and-communist-m), one of the guy’s favorite books was The Communist Manifesto.
Why is it always the crazys who like Mein Kampf. But seriously, if you look at his reading list, you can notice it is all fantasy which engrosses the reader in a non-reality world. Kid was an escapist.
By the way, people are saying that this kid was mad that our currency wasn’t backed by gold…yet I haven’t seen anything to back this up. He talks about wanting to establish a ‘new currency’ to which my obvious reply is that he doesn’t know about Mises’ regression theory. He can’t establish a new currency by simple say-so..
This chap sounds completely insane. And curiously his favorite books list sounds almost exactly like the “most stolen” list we had when I worked at the library… the two most stolen books, the ones we kept under lock and whose loan had to be authorized by the chief librarian himself, were Mein Kampf and Siddharta… seriously what’s wrong with people who read these books?
I expect the usual outcry from “ban the gun!” activists who seem to forget the bloke who shot Pim Fortuyin was also insane and managed to procure a gun in The Netherlands, whose firearm laws are a bit tighter than US ones. Since the person shot was a politician and a progressive, the Liberal media will have a field day. Expect the old phrase “never let a crisis go to waste” to have new meaning.
Here is his youtube channel:
His myspace
Already the media is trying to use the event politically.
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE7071IA20110109?pageNumber=1
From the article:
“The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar. No! I won’t pay debt with a currency that’s not backed by gold and silver! No! I won’t trust in God!”
…
The suspect was not in the database of the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that tracks hate groups and radicals.
“He certainly sounds like he’s gone off the deep end, but at the same time, he is mouthing some rhetoric that is quite reminiscent of the anti-government movement,” Mark Potok, an investigator with the group, told Reuters after reviewing some of the materials posted on the Internet."
If you watch the youtube videos, the way he writes would make anyone question his sanity and of course the article fails to mention this, opting to quote the authority on “haters and radicals”, the SPLC.
He does list the Communist Manifesto but also lists one of Ayn Rand’s lesser known works on his youtube page. If you read his myspace page he laments “…no public property for housing, no jobs for me.”
A friend (http://twitter.com/caitieparker) of the shooter calls him: “As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.”
"He was a political radical & met Giffords once before in '07, asked her a question & he told me she was “stupid & unintelligent”
Resident leftists on reddit are going hysterical over a Palin campaign site which featured bullseyes pointing to Democratic congressional districts: http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/eykp7/sarah_palin_got_her_wish_gabrielle_giffords_was/
No doubt other leftists sites and blogs are going to jump on that one.
Siddharta… seriously what’s wrong with people who read these books?
I’m offended. I really like Hesse’s work!
The bit I read of his stuff had the guy coming across pretty insane. Not like “He’s a mad man revolutionary who doesn’t care who he hurts” but “I rub peanut butter on my balls to channel the ghost’s of Napoleon and Ayn Rand so they can thumb wrestle using my body”.
And yeah, its going to be used for a lot of bullshit PR. I actually like the quote from the speaker of the house. In the heat of the moment he let it slip what everyone always knew. They consider themselves a higher class than the herd.
I wonder why the terrorist moniker isn’t used for a guy like this- while pakistanis and somalis who haven’t killed anybody are dehumanized real quick.
Good call. All that surveillance technology, all those ridiculous searches at the airports, all those big words about al-Quaeda being the greatest threat to America and they couldn’t stop an insane kid killing one of their own. Tragic? Yes, Embarassing? Even more.
Did he have a list of demands? If he didn’t he isn’t a terrorist.
The terrorist label isn’t used because there is no percentage in it. It is purely a label for PR purposes. This douche doesn’t belong to any group that politicians can afford to demonize at the moment. Veterans? Gun Owners? Totally insane assholes? All groups that it is politically not feasible to screw with by the terrorist ploy.
That’s what it says on the Youtube channel, but then who knows, if it is even his channel.
And it begins.
Good for muddling the waters and covering the complete embarassment of the “security industry”. Even a child can see that forcing people to be scanned, torturing “enemy combatants” and bombing mud huts in the Hindu Kush to “fight terror” didn’t stop your run of the mill madman from doing what he wanted. But again it was a child who saw the emperor had no clothes, not a philosopher or a clergyman.
For crying out loud, do we know anything about why this guy did it? Is there any indication this was politically motivated, other than the fact that he shot up a political event? Maybe he hated Giffords for some personal reason. Maybe he hates the federal government and wanted to kill his local representative, regardless of the representative’s affiliation. Maybe he’s just a mentally disturbed man who wanted to kill a bunch of people and figured a political event is a good place to do it. Maybe he’s another John Hinckley, Jr., trying to get the attention of Kristen Stewart or something.
It is an incredible accusation to say Palin or others are tangentially responsible when you have zero information as to why the kid did it. Sure, it fits the story of a right extremist provoked by political rhetoric into ‘doing something,’ but we still have no idea if that’s the case. I know I’m expecting too much of a person like Olbermann, but damn, show a little patience and restraint.
It’s like blaming the Jews for the financial crisis.
Exactly. His classmates knew he was going to do something. He was eventually tackled by a civilian. The people will protect themselves.
This congresswoman must have had the shittiest security in history. Every news report mentions that her office got vandalized during the health care vote constantly. Wasn’t that a big enough clue that paying a few guys to watch her back was a good idea? It would seem to indicate that there are nuts in the district who might cause a problem. Supporting the DREAM act in f’ing Arizona didn’t seem like a hazard that had to be accounted for in her public appearances?
I’m not saying the shooting was over that stuff, but its not like she was getting sent wine and roses from the public. It doesn’t take much sense to see that there might be a danger and get someone to watch your back. We’re not talking about “The Jackal” here. He’s a nut with a gun.
Allegedly Loughners mother is Jewish:
I’m surprised that there haven’t been any rants against firearms including demands for stricter gun control.
