Trying to convince you but I’m asking myself ‘why bother?’ We should go into a state of ignoring each other because every time we discuss something you get all zanny and think I’m attacking you or treating you like a child.
If the state uses soldiers to engage in a police state in a territory that wishes to secede, then it only confirms the very theories that have been proposed by this institution. There are several secession movements in the works right now, perhaps the FSR could be the spark that ignites them into action?
Will it really be fought for the state of New Hampshire? Or will it be fought for an ideal?
REALLY? What is this sentiment of perfection or nothing? Are you saying that if the government doesn’t cut spending and taxes by 100% then you don’t want them to cut it by 3-4%?
Who would loan a city the money? The city’s purchasing power would be greatly reduced. Which means it’s borrowing power would be too. To imprison 10% of the city’s population would not only cost the city more in terms of real costs, but it would cost it in terms of jobs as well (most prisoners are the poor, this would mean imprisoning productive members of society).
It costs ~$24,000 a year to imprison one person. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/29/us/29prison.html Multiply that by 1,000, and well you obviously get $24,000,000! That is probably the whole budget, if not more, for a city that size. Looking at the numbers, it really is impossible for a city to imprison 10% of its population. For reference, the budget for the government of the city of Wilmington, NC is $122 million with a population of 100,000 (http://www.wilmingtonnc.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=_9bJ6V8SlXc%3D&tabid=173&mid=3081). So 10% of that would be $12 million. So in reality, in a city of 10,000, to imprison 1,000 for failure to pay taxes would cost the city twice its proposed budget! And from what I know, 80% of most cities budgets go to education. So this imaginary cities justice department would probably only get a measly $1 million or so of its budget. They would have to increase it by 2400%!
So I am sorry, but no, looking at the numbers, a city government does not have the financial ability to imprison 10% of its population. Looking at the numbers, you could probably bring down the city government with a measly 3% of the city’s population not paying taxes. If the city does not imprison the people, then no one else would pay taxes. If they do imprison them, then the city would go broke. It is a win/win situation for us. We do have the power, but only as a group. As individuals, they can easily take us out of the picture.

I now have confirmation that when I asked you a question some time ago it wasn’t me trying to ask of you so as not to assume what you think (my true intention), but me asking you a question is really in your eyes that I’m being emotional and not logical (your perspective). I find the association of a “?” with “being emotional” not very accurate. But before this becomes way bigger than need be, I digress and simply want to point out what has made me “tentative”, as I noted the other day, with discussing with you.
I will not further discuss this with you in this thread so any intellectual degeneration that may arise, that I know you and I truly do want to avoid, can be avoided.
