Yeah, it’s very good. Gives a balanced and revealing picture of the relationship between Nazi Germany and the USSR prior to Barbarossa.
Definitely one of my favourite WW2 documentaries.

What self-respecting libertarian doesn’t like a good ‘all regimes ever are exactly the same and there is therefore no need whatsoever to distinguish between them or even know any actual history or the motives and or forces that drove it’ popcorn-history flick mixed with liberal quantities of attrocity porn and the rightful indignation of apartheid-instituting Waffen-SS apologists? It is a fundamentalist’s wet dream.
Your irony backfired, I came across the documentary because I’m diggint the history and motives, I’m even learning Russian!
And what you call attrocity porn is just things as they are, without being hidden under baskets and flags or just purely censored as current Irak/Afganistan WARS where the war itself, that is, death, dead bodies, mutilated corpses are censored, that’s the attocity, showing it as it is is the natural and honest thing to do.

Sure, The Soviet Story is so honest it “forgets” to mention that up to 2 million ethnic Russians were killed in the collectivisation famine.
I don’t think the documentary set out to examine every atrocity ever committed by the USSR. The famines in Russia under Lenin and Stalin are pretty common knowledge taught in most high school history courses in any case.
All it really sets out to do is examine Nazi-Soviet collaboration in genocide prior to the German invasion of the East. It ain’t perfect, but it’s a good watch. Helps one question the morality of WW2 on the part of the allies.
The Russian victims I spoke perished in the famine that the first ten minutes of the film talks about. Despite treating this atrocity in some detail the fact that Russians were being killed alongside Ukrainians is omitted. Now why would it do that?

I’m just starting to watch it myself and so far seems pretty good. I felt like throwing up at the Ukrainian famine part from just seeing those pictures…I imagine I’m going to feel that way a lot more as I watch, huh?

Do an experiment. Find someone from the area the most affected by the terror famine (East Ukraine) and ask him his opinion about the film, its authors or their characterisation of the famine.
When they mention the labelling of Poland as a fascist aggressor they fail to mention that it was true in that case.
The part where they say that Roosevelt regarded Stalin as axis is the exact opposite of the truth. He had made a secret alliance with Stalin before the war even started.
They falsely describe David Irving as denying the Holocaust. He doubts some details the court story.
My Grandmother and her family suffered tremendously both from Holodomor and collectivisation. She did not see that film. But what would you like to know?

Its a rather good documenary.
It is of course not as good as “Historical Chronicles of Svanidze”, which goes person by person who was involved, but that is running for several years, and still new parts are added.
