Think this would be the price on wrongfully jailing someone for a year and branding him a sex offender in an ancap world?

Cops put dude in jail for a year and publish his mugshot as a sex offender, based only on the fact that he had the same first name as the offender. When situation is finally resolved, he gets 85K and no one is put in jail for kidnapping (in fact, as far as I can see, no one was even reduced in rank, fired, docked pay, etc).

One thing you gotta say for a free market in “justice”: if you fuck up, you’re going to jail, which has got to make you a little more careful than “here’s a black man with the right first name, he must be guilty”.

Is 85K even enough to pay for patching up the holes the rape in jail causes?

I think falsely chargin someone with rape or pedophilia, jus the accusation alone, is nearly, if not just as damaging as being actually convicted. Once the charge is dropped, that’s just a big drop in credibility. So, I don’t see 85k as being too much… tho really, money can’t stop people from looking at you funny, even if it will cause them to not say anything.
