PC is so awesome.
Also, Deus Ex is indeed badass. “Smash the State!”
If you haven’t already, get the Nameless Mod for Deus Ex. It is a VERY fun mod.

Duke Nukem FTW. “Now you see me, now you’re dead.”
mass effect 2 was pretty bad ass
I lol’ed.
Why don’t you guys give your Steam ID’s so I can add you to my friends.
Deus Ex 3 looks like it will be awesome.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was nothing more than a slightly more clever marketing move, however.
I think it is just a marketing ploy. I don’t think it is named “Xenoblade” in Japan, I think the guy said that the only reason it was called “Xenoblade” in the US was to tap into the market.
On the plus side it was developed by Takahashi, perhaps my favorite developer of all time. So that is good. And if it is succeful enough it may lead to a “proper” relaunch of “Xeno” titles. There is more reason I think to be optimistic than pessimistic about this. Though I think the DS and not major consuls may be the future of great RPGs (or maybe I am just unreasonably obsessed with any “turn based” games).
On another note, has anybody mentioned those old point and click adventure games such as the KingsQuest series, or the old Bull Frog games such as Syndicate? Those games and companies (Sierra and Bull Frog) were awsome.
yeah…you people have awful taste in video games.
The games made by semi-obscure eastern european developers tend to interest me. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, for one. They tend to “need” game mods, like TES, but they’re still fun without any. Buggy as hell without patches though. Especially Clear Sky, which managed to wipe my computer once!
All I have is Wii. Anyone want to visit my city on Animal Crossing?
OK what are good games then mr elitist??
Only a single person has mentioned Halo: Reach? C’mon guys!
The beta is out in 4 days, so I’m super excited =)
I hope Halo: Reach is actually good this time.
Halo 1 was amazing
Halo 2 was very good
Halo 3 was fair
Halo 3: ODST was alright, but they didn’t really play around with the gameplay mechanics all that much considering the fact that they spent so much time in interviews and previews saying everything has changed.
'Also, Deus Ex is indeed badass. “Smash the State!”

They are coming out with Deus Ex 3
I also just saw a preview of Fallout: New Vegas. It looks like it will be terrific.
someone did previously mention tribes (not tribes 2). there has never been a game with a high of a skill cap as tribes.
I was very exited when they announced they were working on a browser based tribes, but it looks as if that isn’t going to happen. but yeah, the HO grabbing the flag in the third video and passing it off to the runner who disks off of the HO’s head to make his run pretty much sums up how good people could be at that game.
someone also mentioned baldur’s gate…the black isle days were amazing. but rpg’s are dead. dragon age was the most mediocre piece of crap that could have been produced (the same goes for the mass effects). bioware can do what no other company can do: write coherent stories/dialogue. they even treat it as an integral part of the game (which no one else does). but the gameplay just isn’t there and the stories tend to be a bit ‘meh’. they are, if anything, formulaic. start the game, go to four different places (dragon age, nwn 2, nwn 1, kotor 1, kotor 2 all did this exact same thing), then progress in the linear story line, blah blah blah. I could go on a lot more about this, but instead I’ll just drop an rpg that was post-black isle that I believe is top quality: vampire bloodlines: the masquerade.
vbtm was the first game released on the source engine. everything about it is gold. the story is perfect, the dialogue is perfect, the animation during dialogues is perfect, the leveling system allowed players to accomplish goals in the way they wanted (melee killing spree, stealth, shooting gallery, using your abilities, or any permutation of these) with out penalizing them through less xp gains for not slaughtering entire cities. it allows for a ton of replayability, and so on and so on. but if you torrent it, make sure you install the community fan patches because the game was rushed to release and is buggy as hell. it is the only rpg since bg2 that I thought was good. if you haven’t played it, pick it up. if Rothbard were an ex-pirate, anarchist, vampire, he would be Lucky Jack, a character in that game.
if the player dialogue seems a bit odd, it’s because they are playing a bloodline that is stark ass insane - which allows for some funny instances in game, like arguing with a television.
as far as online fps’s…MW2 is absolute trash. bf2 is better, but not by much. the game has potential, but the noobish 40mm spam ruins quite a bit of fun in that game. I can’t think of any good online fps’…the last one I really enjoyed was the insurgency mod for hl2. good stuff. no cross hairs (only iron sights), vector based aiming, good pacing. I recommend it (not too sure about how many people play it now).
single player fps’s…well…half life 2 set the bar. and episode 2 is as good as an fps can get. never have I been more immersed (forgot I was playing a nerdy video game) than the first time you go up against the hunters. everything, from dialogue, to sound effects, to the setting and level design was mixed perfectly so that you get sucked in to the scene to an absurd degree.
other than hl2, the only single player fps that consistently stuck out as a great game in the past few years was metro 2033 (which got crappy reviews because it was reviewed on consoles - which are trash - and by people who are bad at video games). the story was passable, but the way it was told and the atmosphere drew you in wonderfully. you were really scrambing around for ammo and air filters, and when you were left alone in the tunnels, you felt lonely. and the game knew how to draw your attention to sell its scenes, its action, and its transitions as well as a master of sleight of hand. when the game wanted you to feel like you were losing control of the action, you did. when it wanted you to feel ‘um, was that supposed to happen’, you did. in other games you’re thinking ‘ok if I do this the ai will do this and I can exploit it like this and move on’. in metro 2033 you’re thinking ‘holy crap they’re all over the cart i only have two shells left omg get it off me oh no the drug away dmitri this thing’s flipping over’. it’s just a great gaming experience, download it today. and, unlike most games, if you put it on hard, the difficulty is satisfactorily challenging.
um…I’m sure a lot of you kids love total war (which can be fun) or civilization…but I think the cream of the crop of that type of turn based strategy games is alpha centauri. it’s complicated to jump into, but once you do, you will never find a game of that type with that much depth and that will provide as much of a challenge. hint: if you approach the game as an ac-cap, you will dominate.
and of course, there are always the old lucas arts games. they told fun stories in fun ways (up until full throttle, anything after that was crap).
most games can only hope to have some parts that are good in the middle of a game that is horrible. I’m thinking of oblivion, which has its shining moments (dark brotherhood quests, hiding in dark corners as gaurds path by while trying to steal the duke’s nice china, some really good ruins/dungeons to explore, etc.) but it’s mostly run of the mill garbage (though morrowind was a good bit better). fortunately, bethesda is smart enough to allow their games to be easily modded and with about 10 gigs worth of mods you can make these games a lot better. and yes, fallout 3 was a depressing disappointment…but I’ve got a good bit of faith about new vegas. some of the people developing it have done some very, very good work in the past.
games me and the crew (mostly ancaps) are playing now: apb beta, mount & blade warband (quite good, if you are bored, download the single player version. it was originally developed by a husband and wife as a pet project and turned out to be absurdly fun), bloodlines: champions beta (fun game with a lot of potential), Heroes of Newerth (dota but on a better engine).
I don’t care to type too much about this, but if you’d like me to elaborate on something a bit more, I will.
Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate 1&2, Arcanum, Fallout 1&2 are some of the greatest RPGs of all time.
Grim Fandango is a great oldschool adventure game. Everyone should play it.
YES! Especially with the community patches! This is what an RPG is really supposed to be. On that note, i’m currently running a whitewolf campaign over mibbit / msn. If anyone wants to join in send me a PM we haven’t (really) started yet! Newbies welcome!
Both Half Life 1 & 2 were just jaw dropping, superb games to say the very least. I don’t see the grenade spamming in BF: BC 2 though, so I don’t know where you are coming from.
Also, does anyone know why in the hell CS: Source was never released on the consoles (PS3/360)?
That was a horrible decision on Valve’s part… Why TF2? WHY!!?
Oh well, I guess it was better left a PC exclusive…
Bad Company 2 is great though, it will definitely hold me over until the fall in terms of online play.
I hope Socom 4/ Halo Reach can actually make a dent this year though.
I also just saw a preview of Fallout: New Vegas. It looks like it will be terrific.
Indeed. It’s going to be fantastic.
Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate 1&2, Arcanum, Fallout 1&2 are some of the greatest RPGs of all time.
Indeed here, too. Arcanum is a hugely underrated game. I say that despite its many flaws. It also features one of the most engaging soundtracks of any game I’ve played.
