Video Games

Does anyone here miss the high-quality games on the Gamecube? I mean even though it didn’t fare wel in sales, those exclusives were just fantastic. Now, it’s really hit or miss with the Wii these days… A ton of crap unfortunately!

Oh boy, Eternal Darkness or Metroid Prime. Where are these damn games Nintendo!?

Yeah, I agree, the GCN had some really legit stuff. Most of the Wii games are aimed towards “casuals” and people with no interest in any depths, hence why there are so many awful minigame-based packages out there for it. I’d rant about how video games have been configured for the lowest possible denominator, but I don’t think I care enough anymore.

To be honest, I’ve stopped playing any and all video games since I’ve come to college. Except for Mario Kart 64, of course. That’s a great video game to go along with drinking, haha. I just feel like I’ve outgrown video games and that they’re just wasting my ever-so-scarce time.

Silence the disbeliever!

My opinion is that video games are the best form of leisure there is.

None of the games you listed do not have praticularly good average user ratings(on gamespot), other than hl2.. while some you bashed like newer bioware games(kotor, ME2) have exceptionally high user ratings.

Seconded. I love video games. I’ve been playing them for most of my life.

Now give me your Steam ID’s so we can play some CSS or something! :stuck_out_tongue:

yes. and austrian theory never appears in the more popular economic journals. nor is it as popular in academia. and Mises never got a nobel prize.

Well, he was an AEA distinguished fellow.

Formulaic or not KOTOR is an epic in the history of gaming.

Dude, seriously. Mainstream videogames are made for young teenagers and spiritually f*cked up adults. People who are mature may still play mainstream games, but the dev’s are making a product that will provide a quick release of dopamine to the user, along with an inflated sense of self accomplishment (“HEADSHOT”) with minimal user creativity.

I’m no longer satisfied by mainstream games. After a couple years experimenting with several sourcemods, I find myself drawn towards tabletop roleplaying, where the game is entirely dependent on the imagination and creativity of the users.

There is something incredibly satisfying about a headshot though, you gotta admit.

Especially with a sniper rifle. Although I suck as a sniper tbh.

Yes, the GCN had quite a number of AAA titles and IMHO was a very under-rated system that was bashed way too much. While the Wii can be an utter dissapointment at times, it isn’t exactly horrible. There still are a decent number of games out there, even with all the crap.

Come on Snowflake! Y ou sound like one of those statists that wantn to ban videogames for causing ‘violence’, as if videogames are the real cause for World Wars, school shootings, muggings, and the slums (lol, just messin’ with ya).

With that being said Snowflake… Have you ever played Heavy Rain for the PS3? Definitely not aimed at the mainstream and it’s very immersive as well.

As tempting as it sounds, I am trying to cut off video games. I can do so much good in the real world. The only game I am looking forward to is Max Payne 3… But, it has none of the talent that made the first two games, so I am quite sad.

I’m indeed looking forward to see if somebody else at Rockstar can make a good Max Payne game. Anybody here enjoy the Hitman games? He’s always killing evil state officials like generals, and mafia criminals.

I’m very much looking forward to Max Payne 3 and I hope the third is just as good as the first two.

The Hitman series is a great one as well, if not a bit buggy at times though. But, other than that I love the idea of stealing uniforms and clothing to complete the mission and what not. However, I think the series can be a bit saidstic at times, especially with the enormity of ways to kill your target.

Well, anything can be a deadly weapon. Sometimes you have to improvise. That’s the best part about the game. Improvising.

Austrian masterpieces do have very high user ratings on amazon though.

Come on, there are plenty of big publisher games with a more “adult” orientation. Take Planescape:Torment, Final Fantasy 4, Xenogears for example.

No, I don’t own any consoles. My preference for PCs comes from a strong desire to multitask, pirate, and access mods. If I got a console I could probably chip it to play cracked vijeo games, but I wouldn’t be able to play anything online. You also can’t play RTSes for crap on consoles.

I looked at Heavy Rain and it seems a lot like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, which I really enjoyed. I also liked the Silent Hills 2-4 for PS1/2, which also came out on the PC for me. The gameplay in none of these is particularly good, but a lot of effort was put into the storyline. There are pages and pages of analyses for the plots/characters. Too bad they f*cked up SH:homecoming. I’m glad everyone hated it.

Dems oldskoll mayte. I also don’t think any of those you listed ought to be particularly good games by todays standards. They are, which is sad, but video games should really have gotten better by now. Todays gamer has too much ADD to sit down and play a 40-100 hour game.

Unless its WoW. Ha ha. They referenced snakes on a plane. XKCD makes me laugh.

Dead Space 2 looks like it will be absolutely amazing: Teaser Trailer.
