I’m sure there is already a thread on this somewhere, but I wanted to know people’s intake on this.
I’m personally against it since I’d consider it psycological/physical torture, and that it makes any evidence obtained unadmissible in a court of law.
The reason I ask is because Sean Hannity apparently said that he would volunteerily be waterboarded as a fundraiser for troop families, but he’s been silent since he said it. So Keith Olbermann apparently challenged him and said he would pay $1000 for every second he’s waterboarded.
I’m going to assume everyone here dislikes both anchors, and would like to see Hannity get water boarded regardless of your position. Think it would be pretty entertaining too.
Was wondering if anyone’s done any email bomb kind of things and if so how would I go about organizing that to try and convince him to do it?
It’s pretty sad that we even have to debate this subject. Waterboarding is obviously torture, and nobody knows how many of the victims are even “terrorists.”
It is tough for American conservatives to swallow, but simply having brown skin or attacking/killing US troops does not make one a “terrorist.” Even if it did, it wouldn’t make torture ok. Sean Hannity is a moron who wouldn’t last more than a few seconds being waterboarded (Christopher Hitchens certainly didn’t).
Turning torture into a “survivor” type game sickens me. It will, of course, be a highly sanitized form of “torture” if Hannity does do it for the cameras–nothing close to the horrors our “men in uniform” inflict on others behind closed doors.
That’s just the thing though, after Hitchens did it you saw a pretty radical change in opinion. It made the voices of supporters weaker for a period.
Sick display of human nature? Of course. But completely voluntary and he wouldn’t last a minute. Perfect to make an example of. Especially someone with such a high profile among idiots.
I should have been more clear. I believe the money goes to military families. From what I’ve read it didn’t specify, but I think it’d be to injured vets if anything.
Waterboarding is obviously torture, but I have no problem with Sean Hannity volunteering to be waterboarded. If he goes through with it, I hope whoever waterboards him carries out the procedure as if Sean were a prisoner at one of the CIA’s secret prisons. Good can come out of this if Sean breaks within seconds, which I fully expect he will, and realizes just how terrible waterboarding is. If he realizes the error of his position regarding waterboarding he could be a beneficial force swaying the masses away from the acceptance of torture.
Even if he is waterboarded though, he still won’t come close to experiencing the agony the United States inflicts on “suspected terrorists.” Unlike Sean Hannity, those people have little hope of ever being seen alive again by their friends and family. While in custody, they are subjected to all kinds of emotional and physical torture in addition to being waterboarded. Sean knows that his waterboarding will last only as long as he wants it to. The people the United States government kidnaps and detains without evidence, charge or trial have no clue when their captivation will end.
It’s quite sad when somebody like Sean has forgotten how water feels in such situations. Sean not only lives in a monetary bubble, but lives a bubble life in general I’d say.
“That’s called water Sean. And that’s dirt, yes, carrots grow in dirt and we eat them,” Like talkin’ to a child or somebody that forgot how to feel that much.
I figure lot’s of pain and horror makes a person so thick skinned that they can’t even imagine such horrific pains torture brings. Usually I need a little fresh air or a walk in the woods to wake up to life, but Sean is asking for torture to wake up… yes this is mainstream America folks. Sean would have probably volunteered to join the Roman gladiator fights to prove how life in blood is really not that bad. Sad.
