i would say iāve listening to 60-70% of that material already, but never in chronilogical order.
The main 4 artist I listen to are Lupe Fiasco, KiD CuDi, Charles Hamilton, and Jay Electronica.

Yeah, thatās the one. Dayton for some reason has a lot of semi famous bands and more celebrities than one would expect. The Breeders are pretty cool (at least their 1st 2 albums). They had a top 40 hit that is more famous than any Pixies song called āCannonballā that you may have heard:

I had never heard of driving on 9, but youāre right that is pretty sweet.
Iām starting Freewheelinā Bob Dylan today. His first album (self-titled) was actually really short (you can listen to the whole thing in like half an hour). But Iām thinking I will have to spend a bit more time this record. Itās longer, but it also has some of his better folk songs (āgirl from the north countryā is one of my favorite dylan songs, but i like the version on nashville skyline better, ādonāt think twiceā is also awesome).
iāve never listened to all of blonde on blonde, but i do know a lot of really good dylan songs came off that album (rainy day woman, you go your way and iāll go mine, etc). so Iām looking forward to hearing it.
Chances are this will take longer than 2 weeks to really do. but you gotta have goals i guess.

@Student, I agree that I unabashedly appreciate Kanye West, not so much with Lady Gaga. For some reason, I feel as though I realize she isnāt a great musician (or singer in my opinion), but thereās something about the glossy synthesizers that Iāve always had an affinity for. That probably comes from me liking New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and that type of stuff. So I can enjoy Lady Gaga, which is unusual for me
Built to Spill is my favorite band; I convince myself that āThe Planā is a very Hayekian song. In the same vein, Iām a big fan of Modest Mouse, as well as Man Man, Gogol Bordello, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, The Shins, Arcade Fire, The Walkmen and Ween. I also want to throw out Mississippi Fred McDowell. I mostly ignored music growing up, so Iām still pretty uneducated. Most recently, Iāve been listening to Kanyeās new album and Janelle MonĆ”eās ArchAndroid.

ArchAndroid was an awesome album. Janelle Monae is the best female rapper since Lauryn Hill.
And on LCD Soundsystem. Have you seen the Pow Pow video directed by Mtv? What do you think about the blatant masonic symbolism?

Yah, I think I can agree with that (but you donāt think gaga has a good voice?? I think its pretty good. She can really belt out the notes on bad romance). Musically, I think Kanye is way superior.
I had his latest album on an almost permanent loop in my car last month. Def his best yet imo. even better than graduation.
@Izzy, Iāve heard a few of their songs. I keep telling myself Iām going to get their discography someday but I forget about it. Further is a very good song.

i really liked 808s too. i donāt know why some ppl had such a prob with it. i guess some ppl just prefer ye rapping to singing.
my ranking would prob be pretty similar except i would probably move 808s down to a close third behind graduation. I liked 808s, but graduation was just over the top for me.
Iām a big fan of the Decemberists (yes they really spell it that way) and Ben Folds.
Somewhere thereās a real-life, published journal article by Steven Horwitz on libertarian utopianism in Rush and other progressive rock music. That said, I try not to judge musicians based on their political views unless theyāre really obnoxious about it.
