WikiLeaks: Cuba banned Sicko for depicting 'mythical' healthcare system

“Authorities feared footage of gleaming hospital in Michael Moore’s Oscar-nominated film would provoke a popular backlash”

In spirit of the thread, are there articles depicting the real state of cuba’s health care system? Or even better, statistics?

Or not?

interesting development!

The dates quoted do allow a span of 3 months between when this cable was supposedly sent, and when the film was supposedly broadcast.

Is there such a things as a reliable free press in cuba that can confirm the broadcast of the unedited film and can attest to the response of cubans to it?

The media is being silly with its titles. These are not the words of WikiLeaks. They are the words of the author of the cable. An accurate title would be: State Department Cable: Cuba banned Sicko for depicting ‘mythical’ healthcare system.

All I have to say is: LMFAO

There is now a guardian article that says this is false.

But it’s still funny that Moore is so proud that he has so pleased an authoritarian regime. He claims that Cuba loved this film so much that it was one of the only films they get to see in a theater. Fulfilling his ego and glossing over the fact that media is so carefully controlled. Which isn’t a problem. As long as his propaganda piece showing the glories of the state is shown… who needs other media? The government could have no ulterior motive for showing itself in this way… it must just be the aesthetics and facts of the film itself which make it a blockbuster among the elite.

People actually read a terrible rag like the Guardian.

I can point to at least a dozen spelling and grammar mistakes made in Guardian’s pieces.

Don’t take my word for it.

You can spend a week reading the Guardian regularly yourself before you decide it is rubbish.

So you’re admitting to poisoning the well?

Even a broken clock tells the right time twice a day.

so how do we know which story is fact?
