Today I received a notice from the Census Bureau, informing me I would receive a Census Form. Apparently sending me the form would not have been notice enough. I am contemplating only filling out the section about the number of people at my residence or discarding it all together. Anybody see any legal reprecussions or moral dilemmas with either course of action?

I did a little reading and it is only mandatory to give name and number of people in the house. After that I believe you can refuse all the questions.
Whateveer you do don’t lie on the form! That carries a $500 fine. I believe you only have to answer questions about the ages and number of people in the household along with what type of dwelling it is (rental, condo, detached etc.) There is a $100 fine for refusing to answer those ones.
I don’t see why I should be required to answer anything about the type of dwelling I live in. This whole thing seems like a huge waste of money.
If they send me one I am throwing it away.
Maybe you should fight a different battle? Don’t paint a red x on you for all to see.
Why? I would have to spend a few days in jail, if they even come after me. Big deal.
You may not have to. That is just what I plan on answering. The type, but nothing about the cost or mortgage or anything like that. Just remember, $100 fine for resufing to answer and $500 fine for lying.

Return their notice to them with a letter saying that you charge x dollars compensation for providing a completed Census Form. See whether they answer back or send the form after that.

Actually the fine is now $5000 for refusing to answer. I just filled out the census. There really is nothing the government doesn’t already know about you if you file tax returns.

and so the reason they are coercing people into filling out truth packed census forms is what?

My Census form was mailed to apt 207 and yet they want to know what kind of dwelling I live in. For knowing everything they sure ask stupid questions.

That is for the long form. For the short form, which most people get, it is only $100.
