Recently, some of us in college, who have been ready to collect on 5th April the admit cards for the examinations to be held soon, suddenly found out yesterday that we won’t be getting the admit cards on that day unless a prior condition if fulfilled.
The government has mandated that all junior freshman students must sign an affidavit and have it stamped at a court that makes them promise they will not emotionally abuse the next batch of students to be admitted.
Again, unless we do it, we can’t appear for the upcoming exams.
We all have been in a rush to get the stamp paper, print out the affidavit on it, go to a court with our parents, have both our signatures put on it, and then submit it in college.
I and a friend are just hoping to take our affidavits to college on time, and give it within the very short working hours the office staff has there. This is a government college, and the adminstrative staff doesn’t exactly care much about you, and in past experiences, I have rushed to the counter only to be greeted by their uninterested face which tells you that it’s not their hours and they will not do anything for you. I just hope this won’t happen again.
I can not imagine so many of us forced in to such an arbitrary circumstance where the possible consequence is not being allowed to give examinations. Some legislators made a big deal about emotional abuse done by backward and less literate people in the poorer parts of the country in the academic institutions, and now this is mandated for every instituitition of higher learning.
It’s been keeping me on the edge for a while.
