Dear Forum Members,
I’m a young entrepreneur in Hefei, China, with aspirations to soon
move to Shanghai. There, I’ll begin by teaching English, but I will be
reaching out to the community of economists and financiers in the city
to develop a network. I have considered for several years founding a
magazine and running it. I know in this day and age printed
publications are no longer an efficient form of revenue, but I think
that there is still some market for them. Given a proper internet
platform to support a venture into this field, I am confident I can
find success.
I considered for some time a magazine on sustainable living and
technology, but I have recently finished reading Hayek’s Road to
Serfdom, and am just about done with von Mises’ Human Action. Next I’m
reading Popper, then Rothbard. I would like to write on world events
through the lens of an Austrian economist. More appropriately, I would
like to return the study of economics to is proper place in
contemporary affairs. I would like to act to remove the term
“Austrian” from “Austrian economics” and help create a realization of
economics as it stands, and as it has stood. As Hayek, von Mises,
Rothbard et al. wrote about, professed on and believed.
This idea has been tactfully removed from mainstream global civilization from governments as they presently preside over world affairs. With the resurgence of awareness of economics and politics in the United States and the wave of support that such advocates of economics as Ron Paul and Pete Schiff have received in the past months, I want to spread these ideas in China and among the English-speaking communities in Shanghai.
Of course, these views will be tempered as not to disrupt Chinese society and civilization. More appropriately, they may not even touch Chinese affairs at first, until I can establish some ties with local authorities. This may take some effort, but that is why I am making this post.
I was hoping that anybody could put me in touch with parties in Shanghai
who might have similar worldviews and economic perspectives, as well
as similar ideas and goals.
