I was left over with a twelve billion surplus after all was said and done; and I didn’t raise a bit of tax. How well can you guys do it I wonder?
Californians should be asking for a refund, not a bailout. In the period between 1985 - 2005, Californians paid out roughly $520,914,000,000.00 more in taxes than they received in federal spending; not too mention a large chunk of that federal spending is then eaten up in payroll/admin costs.
Well.. to get a budget like that you need to have the one-time fixes. That stuff is pretty much stealing from the future and other governments and taxpayers. You’d also have to close all community colleges, too.
What I left after cutting costs:
Education: Community Colleges
What I didn’t do to raise cash:
One-Time fixes:Revenue Anticipation, Tax Withholding, Local Gov’t, Transportation funds
Taxes:Didn’t include any taxes except alcohol tax.
Deficit: $2.256 billion
Cuts: $21.156 billion
New taxes: $585 million
I cut every single thing and added no taxes. I was cackling maniacally non-stop.
Still 1.2 billion in the hole… damn state workers. No “legalize it” options for added revenue? That would’ve balanced me out right there.
