I’m not sure how many of you have followed what is going on in California with the tax issue; so, I thought I would give some of you insight on what is really happening.
What the Main Stream Media is Reporting:
California was on the brink of a financial disaster. The state is currently running on a Debt of approx. $42 Billion+, and if the state legislature didn’t get anything done, the entire state of California would have collapse.
Thankfully, the state legislature was able to pass a budget plan that would increase revenue for the state. The increasing in revenue is an increase in sales, property, business, and car registration taxes.
In order to pass the bill, the heroics of state legislatures like Roger Niello, Anthony Adams, and Abel Maldonado (all Republicans), were necessary to occur; all of whom Republicans that voted for the bill.
California now has it’s budget passed, and is now on a road to a greater financial future.
What is Really Happening
California has become the definition of a corrupt political world. California has spent it’s way to a debt of $42 Billion. Nevertheless, it didn’t change the opinion of it’s political officials when they decided to pass the largest tax increase in United States’ history; also, keep in my mind, the entire world is being challenged by the worst recession in history.
The argument has became among officials “not should we tax the people,” but “how much?” Even though a majority of California’s Republican caucus signed a “no new tax” pledge just last year, it didn’t change what really happened in Sacramento.
In order to pass the increases taxes, three republicans from each house would have to submit. The battle to get the six Republicans would go on for weeks, but as you already know, the bill was able to pass.
In that Bill there would be an increase in sales, property, business, and car registration tax; most of which California was already the highest in the nation!
Even given that atrocity, it doesn’t stop there. Even though California’s officials elected to increase taxes in the middle of a recession, the way it happened was not reported correctly by the main stream media.
I will not go into the causes of California’s financial crisis, I will rather just give you a quick overview. Causes of the crisis include:
- Public Employee Unions
- California’s Immigrant Problem
- Relentless Spending (i.e. roads to no where)
- The Housing Crisis
- Other
I will also like to include before I continue that California’s budget has increasesd by 100% in the last 10 years.
Now back to the hiest.
As explained earlier there was a reported struggle for the votes necessary to pass the budget, but just learned recently , Anthony Adams, one of the assemblymen that voted for the bill, admitted that there was a mutual agreement among Republicans to vote for the new taxes. Given that only three votes were need in the Assembly House, political will guided the idea that only three votes will be provided. Even though a majority of Republicans campaigned and publically apposed the bill, Anthony Adams’ statement proves that there was a popular consensus among Republicans supporting the bill. There is also more proof that Republicans had a partnerhsip. In response to the new budget, a spending cap will be presented on the next California Ballot (prop 1A). What is not disclosed in the main stream media is that the spending cap will also result in proplonging the new taxes for another 2 years! Now if that doesn’t go against the “no new tax” pledge that Republicans signed then what does? Therefore, you would believe that the Republican Legislature would vote against the bill, but that wasn’t what happened. Twenty-six out of the twenty-nine Republican Legislatures voted “ayes” for the bill. Not only that, a Republican Committee has donated million of dollars to one of the main financiers for the advertising campaign in support of the bill.
This is what California has become, and it’s due to the apathy of it’s citizens and the incompetency of it’s officials. I will like to invite everyone to the Tax Revolt Rally on Saturday in Fullerton, California (more Info).

Many of California’s citizens are living on their last few dollars, and the State Legislature has just robbed them blind.
