HTWW and thunderfoot youtube debate

Thoughts on this? Basically your typical European socialist-Athiest versus, American minarchist free marketeer. battle of the internet tough guys, filming from their moms basement. lot of people have added to this debate in the last few weeks

link?

Exactly what I was thinking.

HTWW made some videos about environmentalism and other stuff. Amazingatheist made a video response. Then Thunderfoot jumped into a developing debate. Amazingatheist dropped out, and its thunderfoots army versus HTWW and his mommys basement army.

I wonder if this is some type of train crash situation for you that you just had to post here or what?

I got 4:21 in and had to stop. I was becoming mentally retarded.

I like thunderf00ts anti-creationist videos, but I stopped watching when he started saying that hitmen and slavery would be legal in a free market, and that education, national defense, infrastructure, etc can only be provided by socialist policies.

Sure, he knows his facts, and destroyed HTWW’s arguments about oil, england’s food supply, etc, but his lack of understanding of a free market society keeps him from making any solid argument against most of HTWW’s points. His argument for climate change was completely an appeal to authority, and he also refused to accept that there is any free market solution.

Disappointing video

In Youtube, politican becomes you!

Thunderfoot also rubbed me the wrong way when I found out he sounded like Gaius Baltar.

I was breifly considering at some point utilizing youtube to portray actual debates, but no one I know (offline) is interested in it, probably because I would disagree with them most of the time. Thanks to this post, however, I am probably not going to sell a part of my soul onto the youtube media due to how “serious” it all sounds (lol).

A podcast would be pretty nice stuff, though; maybe when I have more time. Although, I frankly wouldn’t be surprised if it became illegal to make a podcast in the next few years, espcially rearding use of copyrighted works, etc.

Up until this recent shit storm lulz between HTWW and Thunderf00t, i really had stop giving a shit about people giving their opinions on youtube. But i think this debate has some teeth to it, also confederalsocialist made some good video replys to thunderf00t

on youtube i like stefbot, confederalsocialist, brainpolice2, xomniverse, and aaron0883. Qtronman and mrcropper sometimes post ok stuff now and again.

Other than that: garbage.

I find XOmniverse to be good as well. And you can’t forget the Mises YouTube channel! [:P]

I never got into Boy Misunderstood with Webcam genre. I think I am too old for that.

I am all over the Mises Channel, and I follow Schiff, Rogers, Faber and some other investment folks on there.

The Mises channel has AWESOME content.

I’m a content consumer, not a content producer.

I agree with John Ess. I’d add HTWW to that list, and Austrolibertarian as well (as well as a number of others but who less frequently make videos.

There’s something about the attention that losers who post on YT get that bothers me, whether or not they’re Austrians.

Oh I have others. I was mentioning the personal vlogs – not any different than boy misunderstood with blog or boy misunderstood on the mises forum. Certainly when it comes to kids with a lot of reading and theorizing and no personal experience or life, forums win out. At least on vlogs people who toss shit at least have a face to their name.

Most of my subscriptions are to news like aljazeera, russia today, some arabic language news, videos from colleges like MIT and Stanford and Berkeley, the Onion… mostly stuff that isn’t simply rehashed in print somewhere.

Right. I’m all over that stuff too. I have a voracious appetite for media.

Yeah, I watched some of that Amazing Atheist vs. HTTW last night. It’s basically like any other flame war. You have one or both people with false premises arguing back and forth, with some ad hom for style. I am fairly impressed with Capt. Stares A Lot. lol I’ll probably keep an eye on his channel.

Yea. What bothers me is the attention some stupid/immoral/rude/mean/annoying/freaks seem to get.

Here are a few examples.

  1. The worship of the “gang” lifestyle by many young adults. I dislike how these people dress, how they talk, and especially their attitude.

  2. Young snotty girls who are complete idiots, but happen to be physically attractive. They are sought after by swarms of sex obsessed creeps. I dislike their attitude, their stupidity, their messed up value systems, and their false sense of superiority.

  3. The Jonas Brothers. People over 18 still listen to these crybabies. They are coming to my hometown soon…and lets just say I have been preparing.[;)]

Haha. hot chicks, gangsters, and Jonas Brothers… definitely best subgroups of Austrian economists if they’re out there. [^o)]

Check out this video series of confederalsocialist for an informed debunking of thunderf00t’s pro-state trolling.

What I really hate about types like thunderf00t is that while they easily fall for non sequiturs (the state funds science + science is good → the state is good) (creationists hate some scientists → all scientists are good and trustworthy), they consider themselves the intellectual avant-garde of humanity. Just listen how much he bashes HTWW for claiming to deviate from the opinions of “experts”. And how he ridicules HTWW’s points about conflicts of interest among IPCC “scientists”, but is always quick to point out that preachers are only out for the money.

Add the arrogant accent and you get a guy that seriously drives you nuts.

ESS, what is the big deal about Creationists? Is there a particular reason why a lot of folks seem to be obsessed with debunking them?
