LMAO !!! How exactly has the “mises marketplace” spoken ? (let alone defining what the hell the mises marketplace is)
Maybe you’re embracing the utterly amusing belief that reality is whatever ppl want to believe ? So, if enough catholics believe that inquisitor aquinas was a libertarian then that’s what one is supposed to parrot in a ‘marketplace’ for LIES ?
No, I realised a few months back that spending so much time going round in circles over the same crap was a waste of time. I realised it’s more productive using it elsewhere.
No need to overly bash Aquinas. He made great contributions to natural rights philosophy (for example, getting rid of the Aristotelian notion that the state of nature is a hierarchical system with rulers and serfs - even though he may not have been the first to do so) and thereby actually weaked the position of the church which was supposed to be subject to natural laws after all. The fact that he also held some batshit insane ideas is tragic, but doesn’t invalidate his general positions.
Or you do recant the works of Rothbard because he got entangled in the Ron Paul newsletter scandal of the late 80s/early 90s?
Thomas Aquinas : “'much more reason is there for heretics, as soon as they are convicted of heresy, to be not only excommunicated but even put to death.”
If you’re unable to see how marginalized you and your posts are here, then that is a byproduct of what I spoke of earlier. Mises.org provides a commons, and you are unable to determine the quality of your posts because there is no cost to you. Good posts, bad posts, whatever. You have no feedback mechanism outside of your own capacity to reason, and thus you suffer from a calculation error.
I believe that market success is predicated on whatever people believe they want, and how they individually determine satisfaction. So if by reality you mean the market (I did say market, not reality), then yes.
Well, the Catholics also seem to allow you to continue posting here on these forums, so they obviously can make a mistake. For someone who loathes Catholics, you seem to spend a lot of time using their resources. Then again, you did avoid answering earlier if you shun theists in your market transactions. I suspect because you are a lot of talk, and very little walk.
Actually, you made my day. I was going to make that post yesterday but held back. I feel better pointing out the hypocrisy of your criticizing Rockwellians and Misesians as authoritarian, but somehow surviving on their good graces to be able to say so. I suspect Juanblog.blogspot.com wouldn’t get you the attention you get here. Largely because you are enabled by the tolerance and resources of people you claim are authoritarian.
Now obviously, some criticism has merit. But I think you and I both know that you have no respect for the people who run this place, so this is less about criticism and more about ideology.
This is my last response to you. To be honest, I made it for the benefit of others who will read it, although I am sure you will use it as a platform to further indulge yourself at the expense of the conservative theists you claim to loathe so much.
i guess that aside from inheriting from the jews ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’, christians ended up with all sorts of nonsense like this:
5 How long, LORD? Wilt thou be angry for ever?
Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee,
and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
If you had any passing familiarity with european history you’d know what the catholic church stood and stands for. Now, IIRC you’re an ex-protestant German, so I’m guessing you DO have some knowledge about churches, their politics, and the like – I’ll also guess you’re playing dumb. And I fail to see what kind of respect that entails…so “with all due respect” is an odd remark to make…
I know that. I know about the Inquisition, I know about repressive Catholic lobbyism until the dawn of the 20th century, I know about the Reichskonkordat and the Rome-Berlin connections of the time.
Keep in mind that I didn’t defend the Catholic Church. I defended Aquinas’ elaborations on natural rights. The fact that he didn’t take too kindly to non-believers is an unfortunate relic of his time.
Actually, I’m a nominal Catholic who had some sort of Baptist phase. I have received all the Catholic sacraments and gone through all the Catholic training units. I know whom I’m dealing with.
I really would like to know who are these creationists that they’re debunking who have not already been debunked so many times before. But, I think its just a topic everybody who desires to bash theism jumps on thinking every theist, esspecially a Christian one, is a creationist.
But the whole glaring objection is that part of Aquinas’ theory and probably all of his practice went against natural rights. If we assume that the stoics came up with the notion of natural rights, then the idea was already 1500 years old when Aquinas took it up. And his version of natural rights included the destruction of dissidents. Saying that Aquinas’ shortcomings were part of the zeitgeist doesn’t cut it IMO. Okay - I’m done ‘ranting’ now.
Not sure what you mean by marginalized. Of course the theists can consider me rude, ignorant, godless or whatever, but I couldn’t care less.
Wrong. And all your elaboration on that wrong premise is wrong as well.
When I say reality I mean reality. The historical role of the catholic church for instance, and other revealed religions, is a matter of objective historical fact. It has nothing to do with ‘markets’ and subjective preference.
What mistake ? Perhaps you think they should ban me ? Haha. You seem to be more papist than the pope…
I do avoid people I don’t like. Now, what can that possibly have to do with my arguments, I don’t know. See, I can criticize religion X regardless of my dealing or not with ppl who subscribe to religion X.
I’m not sure what a rockwellian or a misesian is…Not sure when I said they are authoritarians either. I do say that the catholic church was and is a totalitarian institution, which is vox populi.
I have no respect for the idea of ‘fusing’ conservatism and libertarianism. I’ve no respect for people who think that children can be hit by their parents…or leave. I’ve no respect for people who want to replace modern statism with ‘voluntary’ theocracy. If that’s case with “the people who run this place”, I frankly don’t know.
