Here’s a fun one I was reminded of by this thread where Paul Krugman lists his top 5 econ books. In this interview below, he discusses the one that ranks at the top of his list. Krugman basically provides an explanation for everything about the way he is in less than 90 seconds..

And here’s a nice supplement from his own New York Times.

China’s communists mark 90th, hail party’s success

Excerpt: [Chinese President] Hu glossed over the radical campaigns and policies that led to tens of millions of deaths in the first decades of communist rule. But he said the party endured because it learned from its mistakes.

Pope denounces commodities speculation

Excerpt: Pope Benedict XVI denounced speculation in commodities markets Friday and demanded a global response to high food prices based on solidarity, not profit . . . Benedict’s call echoed the argument laid out in his last encyclical “Charity in Truth,” which denounced the profit-at-all cost mentality blamed for the global economic downturn.

Clinton outlines road ahead for Arab democracy

Excerpt: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that the rule of law, political parties and democratic institutions must emerge in the Arab world if it is to emulate Eastern Europe’s remarkable transition two decades ago from authoritarianism to truly free societies.

I suggest the people in the Middle East read the introduction to Democracy: The God That Failed.

Glenn Beck has last Fox News Channel show

Excerpt: Fox will air a John Stossel special on Friday and a week of Beck reruns before launching a summertime replacement series, “The Five.” It will include a rotating crew of Fox personalities like Andrew Napolitano, Geraldo Rivera, Juan Williams, Monica Crowley and Eric Bolling debating issues of the day.

‘The Great’ Henry Hazlitt

I love this interview because Hazlitt says it best what Conservatives really do. Most claim they want to decentralize governments, but in reality, they just keep governments big. As Hazlitt says (paraphrasing the quote), “[Conservatives] claim to administer their socialistic policies better because they dont believe in it”

Like Nixon, Obama Will Waste Lives to Get Reelected

(2005)

This man got re-elected with 54% of the vote.

Oh snap.

Had one of my comments on Patriotism read live on the air on NPR. Link to the show, Airtalk.

Happens at about the 12:15 mark. You guys will love the hosts response.

You know he only read it because he thought he would show you up with is oh-so totally awesome retort.

I only listened to a couple of minutes but the whole topic/segment setup reminds me of the Coffee Party nonsense…basically a way for Leftists to get together and talk about nothing and try to make each other feel better…

Obama’s Economists: ‘Stimulus’ Has Cost $278,000 per Job## The stimulus is now causing the economy to shed jobs.

Just happen to be watching John Stossel today and he’s talking about how much government assistance American Indians have gotten and are getting. The Director of the Indian Trust (I think that’s what it’s called) said that the reason that Indians are poor is that the United States has neglected them after being asked why it was that the Amish and the Mormons do just fine.

He was reporting on that over a decade ago actually…

That most American of games, basketball, is literally following the money to China.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/Kobe-Bryant-ponders-China-tour-if-NBA-lockout-is-prolonged-070411

An extended NBA lockout could bring China’s basketball fans a barnstorming tour featuring one of the game’s brightest stars, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing various reports.

While NBA team owners and the players’ union battle over how to split the league’s roughly $4 billion worth of revenue, Kobe Bryant was said to be considering an exhibition tour in China, where his jersey has long been the number one seller.

Other stars also thinking of joining.
