What a douchebag. I can’t imagine how insufferable that geezer must have been when he was actually alive. (i.e. before they dug him up and reanimated him just so he could dump on the libertarian entrepreneur and affirm the status quo through condescension and smug.)

He just gets done saying “you have given more than $2.5 million”…and then no 60 seconds later goes “why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?”

jeezus where is Kevorkian already?

Senate Dems: Increase Grope Fees…

You have to love how people were all to happy to claim the world would blow up the day after “obvious” dunce Sarah Palin became VP…but the biggest buffoon I may have ever seen gets the job instead, and he gets laughed off like “Ah, no big deal. That’s just crazy uncle Biden. He’s so silly.”

Biden: ‘I Have a Beautiful Home, You Pay Me a lot of Money’

So you may remember Dambisa Moyo, the Zambian author from her 2009 book Dead Aid, in which she exposes how foreign aid has not done any good, but actually hurt the economies of Africa.

It was really refreshing (and helpful) to have an actual African speaking this truth. Not only because it’s nice to see that at least some of them get it, but more so that this information is coming from the mouth of a black, female, African, educated at Harvard and Oxford…as in, precisely the kind of person the Leftist “do gooders” love, and one of the few they can’t easily dismiss using their usual tactics…because as you can see she basically neutralizes all of their typical weapons (e.g. racist, sexist, eurocentrist, ignorant/uneducated/dumb). It also helps that she’s in the best position to tell these paternalistic, condescending douchebags that they don’t know what’s best for Africans.

Unfortuantely now she’s out with a new book…and…well…this is the teaser:

Uncommon Knowledge: John Stossel on Why the Media Hates Business and Why Governments Fail

You can watch the special they speak about (along with some others) here.

I really don’t understand this Ratigan guy. I’ve never seen anyone “get it” but not get it to quite this degree. It’s like he knows the answer, but doesn’t like it, so he doesn’t want to hear it and gets frustrated when a sharp guy like Peter Schiff gives it to him. It’s the same thing he did to Ron Paul here. “Yeah yeah yeah, we get it, government’s the problem. But you’re never going to sell that to the public. So how do we fix this, really?” Reminds me a lot of this thread demanding “pragmatic” solutions wherein “pragmatic” means only policies that won’t do anything (which ironically is precisely what makes them “pragmatic”).

Then you have to love the quiet socialist at the end…you know it was just killing him having to listen to Schiff that whole time, but he doesn’t have the personality to channel that rage into an engaging response so he ends up doing that hilarious quiet Leftist thing.

John Stossel - When People Don’t Matter

I think he has a point. Whenever I listen to TV show debates, I substitute the word “church” in my mind every time the word “government” is used and imagine that the statists are medieval Catholic clerics debating atheists or Protestants. What is happening in the minds of the panel participants, the anchors and the audience, psychologically, is not that much different, in my opinion.

In other words, the dominant factor in the debate is not logic but, rather, team/tribal loyalty. Just saying “It’s the Church’s fault, the Pope needs to stop meddling in everything” may very well be true but it falls on stone-deaf ears so what’s the point in harping on it? Sure, develop the logical basis in your journals or books but it’s all completely irrelevant to the battle for public opinion.

This is where I would prefer to see someone like Tom Woods on a panel like that because he would move immediately to point out that transferring power out of the hands of irresponsible national governments into the hands of - on average - less irresponsible local governments is one way we can impose discipline on our out-of-control national governments without pushing towards the even greater absurdity of a global government. People aren’t generally ready for secession - which is a bit of a “dirty word” in the vernacular - but most people have never heard of nullification… think of it as a line-item veto of Federal statutes applied by state governors in their respective states.

That’s why I think it’s a real loss that Tom’s just a historian (as terrible as that sounds) because he’s such a marvelous speaker, and has such a gift for relaying things in a way that people not only understand, but are interested in listening to.

But being in his line of work, there aren’t a lot of opportunities for him to get on television. Which sucks, because I think given enough time on the airwaves, Woods could probably start to register on a Ron Paul-level scale of influence.

Judging by his fairly prodigious output on the side from his “day job”, I don’t think he’s allowing his occupation to define himself.

I don’t see how that changes anything I said, or is even relevant, for that matter. My point is he’s not on TV. And I would be willing to bet money it has a lot more to do with a lack of invitation than a lack of time or interest.

My point is that this: “lack of invitation” is not an immutable fact of reality and it appears to me that this is something he’s actively positioning himself to alter.

Other than guesthosting The Peter Schiff Show, how exactly is he doing that?
