Misuse of the term "democracy"

Hi everyone,

I need help composing an article (which will turn into an essay later): Can anyone cite examples of people (mis)using the word “democracy/democratic” when they in fact were more accurately referring to the concept(s) of “freedom/libertarian/anarchic”? Even if it’s refering to something as non-political as baseball or particle physics. Also, if you know of any good articles/essays written on this subject, I’d love to read them.

Remember that democracy is just a decision-making system. It’s not per se a government. Governments do employ democracy, but not all democracies are governments. As in I can vote with a bunch of friends on what restaurant we want to go to, but that’s not a government.
