The First Garden

Anyone else watch Michelle Obama talk to the kids about planting a garden at the White House?

There’s many interesting tidbits in this clip, but I found it most interesting that here is Michelle Obama, unable to use her own children to plant a garden (off at private school), and she has to find labor from a local school (supported by tax dollars) to come and plant food to be used by the Obamas, staff, and guests of the White House. I was curious if there will be a follow-up and the kids get to come back and enjoy the fruits of their labor. That’s typically what people do when they plant a garden - enjoy it. It looks like these kids got to help plant a garden for some elites to enjoy.

Of course us commoners may not be allowed to have our own gardens. We’ll just get to plant them for the public servants who we now serve. That’s change all right!

Thanks for the link. It is only proper that she would use the “common” people to plant her garden. I wonder how often they will have to come back to tend the garden. You know she sees this as their service to the country when it is really service to her. She is also seeing this as her serving them when she is only using child labor to get some vegetables not from the store.

The issue of these children being taken out of a tax-payer funded school aside, I’d be surprised if these children didn’t volunteer to participate in this garden project. There’s nothing wrong with someone volunteering their time and labor as a gift. Of course, the material for the garden is paid for by theft of the taxpayer.
