The last thing we want is a government official being the first contact. Especially, when the bilderberg peeps have a history of saying their last “enemy card” they will play (after playing climate change and terrorism) will be aliens.

For the sake of argument, no I wouldn’t like a gov. official as an ambassador but I still don’t think that aliens wouldn’t be Columbus like if they arrived. I mean just think of the ecological catastrophes that could occur with the melding of wierd potentially unimagined biology with our earth ecosystem.
I agree. But what would you rather have? In our current system the people that are state actors have the authority. I suppose that a compromise would be to have someone that is a former government official be the ambassador to the aliens rather than to a current one. The former statesmen would be more acquainted with all the going ons in the world and have his or her past experienced and knowledge.
Nonfederal Federal Reserve you are acting under the assumption that they don’t have the same capabilities that we have or that they have the same capabilities to process language like we do. If an alien-species was intelligent enough to find our planet and visit us on a diplomatic mission I’m sure they would have done the research ahead of time to know what the major power centers are on Earth and whom to contact. To expect anything less would be to discriminate against the potential alien species that might arrive here and they would probably be offended if we thought of them as stupid, unintelligent, or just brutish savages like we portray them on the movies.
Why should aliens care that the UN declares itself to be the “authority”? Is there anything about the UN that makes the people running it any different than everyone else? Not to the aliens. If I declared myself emperor of the world, would the aliens contact me instead? This is a serious question.
I doubt that any species capable or interstellar space travel would be interested in humans. They would probably be operating at such an advanced cognitive level (computer enhancements and all) that humans would seem as primitive as dolphins or gorillas seem to us.
