I think both of those positions are quite narrow. While it’s obviously not necessarily true that "If It wasn’t for Ron Paul I wouldn’t have been a libertarian", I don’t quite see how it can be claimed that the reason it’s not true is because “they were going to come across these ideas one way or another.”
This to me screams syllogistic fallacy.
On another note, if this segment is any indication of what the whole conversation sounds like, it’s probably better that I had put off listening to it. There’s only so many times I can stand “mmhmm.” "right’. “right.” “mmhmm.” “yeah” while one person just continues talking for minutes on end.
This kind of “agreeability” looks to be much more entertaining on The Apprentice.

There’s No God (damn) Particle
My thoguhts, exactly. LHC is a multi-billion dollar boondoggle and it’s not going to help us better understand the physical universe when there are already grave problems in our current picture of the Universe at scales much larger than those being investigated by LHC. A theory of physics in which we have 90+% of the Universe consisting of never-observed, ad hoc entities (dark matter/dark energy) is absurd on its face. And yet we’re pouring untold billions of dollars into “probing the depths” and reinforcing the laughable claim that “we’re near the mountaintop”, i.e. almost have a Theory of Everything.

Sunstein is a sort of caricature of everything people don’t like and don’t trust about government. The fact that he’s in charge of “open government” speaks volumes.

@Sunstein issue: That’s precisely why I keep an open eye out for disinfo agents on these boards (particularly when we start discussing revisionist history and conspiracy theories). The most common MO I seem to notice is flagrant caricature of some common conspiracy-theoretic ideas in combination with constant links and recommendations to lectures by more notable individuals who are likely also disinfo agents (Icke, Jones*, Tarpley, and pretty much any “ex” CIA agent you care to name).
Also, one quick footnote on psy-ops, generally. There is this impression nowadays that “psychological operations” are some kind of modern invention. They are not. Psychological operations are the essence of State propaganda through the ages. Some new techniques are invented over time but the primary body of techniques is ancient, well-used and constantly re-applied to the ends of the State.

*I wonder if Alex Jones and David Icke are truly misguided but well-intentioned individuals but, in any case, I suspect Establishment connections for a variety of reasons and I think they are peddling a particular kind of propaganda that I call intimidation propaganda. This is particularly pernicious propaganda because it is actually the truth regarding the intentions, plans and activities of the Establishment but with the twist that their capabilities are vastly exaggerated to cartoonish proportions. The net effect is to intimidate consumers of the propaganda - who will never be deterred from correctly attributing sinister motives to the government - which keeps them in the realm of resentment instead of actual resistance. “Let them hate us so long as they fear us.”
I don’t see how Jones could be a disinfo agent. Just like when it was suggested Ron Paul was with the bad guys, I’d say he’s been a pretty terrible ringer.
Although I do find it kind of funny tname you name Tarpley. when someone else here is pretty fanatical about him, teehee.
